Mark your calendars for Google’s highly anticipated annual I/O developer conference, scheduled to take place on May 20. This year, there are two significant events you won’t want to miss to keep yourself updated on all the exciting advancements the company is making across its software platforms. Kicking off the festivities, I/O 2025 begins on May 20, but preceding it is The Android Show: I/O Edition, which will showcase the latest in the Android ecosystem on May 13.
The Android Show: I/O Edition is set to air at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT on May 13. Since Android is developed partially in the open-source environment, we already have some insights into the potential features of Android 16. Early indications suggest a significant visual overhaul of the operating system’s core functionalities, including a redesigned notification shade. Additionally, we may see features inspired by Apple’s Live Activities for tracking ongoing events and a possible Samsung DeX-like “Desktop Mode” for Android devices, enhancing productivity.
The main event, I/O 2025, will commence on May 20 at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT with an engaging keynote presentation from Google. This keynote traditionally serves as a platform for announcing updates related to Android, Search, Google Workspace, and the innovative Gemini AI project. It’s important to highlight that Google generally does not allocate separate time specifically for Android announcements. While the company has hinted at some Android news during I/O, the spotlight is expected to shine primarily on Gemini. Attendees can anticipate updates on Gemini, along with news regarding Android XR and perhaps further insights into experimental initiatives like Project Astra.
For those interested, Google’s I/O keynote will be available for viewing on Google’s YouTube channel and right here on our page once the livestream goes live on May 20 at 1 PM ET.
The Android Show: I/O Edition will be streamed on Google’s Android YouTube channel on May 13 at 1 PM ET. Since this segment appears to be pre-recorded, you can find it conveniently embedded above for your viewing pleasure.
