The innovative Xbox feature, known as “Stream Your Own Game,” is continuously evolving, and now you can conveniently use your PC to play supported games that you own on Xbox. It’s important to note that these games are streamed from the cloud rather than directly from your console, offering greater flexibility and accessibility. To utilize this feature, you must be an Xbox Insider and hold a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which unlocks a world of gaming possibilities for users.
This recent launch for PC follows the earlier introduction of this feature on various other devices earlier this year. Supported platforms include Xbox consoles, smart TVs, browser-based devices (including mobile), and Meta Quest headsets, making gaming more accessible than ever.
This feature reflects Microsoft’s ongoing mission to enhance the Xbox experience by making its software more device-agnostic. Players can seamlessly hop on any available device and start gaming without the lengthy wait associated with installations. This strategic move makes perfect sense considering Sony’s strong position in the ongoing console competition. The focus is shifting towards promoting Game Pass subscriptions rather than engaging in a fruitless hardware battle.
Currently, Microsoft boasts a library of over 250 supported games, with popular titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and numerous entries from the Assassin’s Creed series. The company has also indicated that it will continue to expand this collection, ensuring that players have access to a variety of gaming experiences.
The collection includes a selection of titles that are typically exclusive to consoles; however, many of these games are already available on PC natively. Nevertheless, this streaming method can significantly alleviate storage concerns and eliminate the tedious process of downloading large game files, providing a seamless gaming experience.
While this feature is groundbreaking, it does come with certain limitations. Users must own digital versions of the games they wish to stream to their PC, as physical copies are not supported. Additionally, the feature is available only in the 28 countries where Xbox Cloud Gaming is operational. A Game Pass Ultimate subscription, costing $20 per month, is also required. Interested gamers should first register for the Xbox Insider program, which is free and opens the door to this exciting new feature.
