Following the dramatic revelation that the Stranger is actually Gandalf at the end of season two of Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, fans of the rich Tolkien universe are eagerly anticipating how this beloved hero will rise to prominence. Additionally, viewers are curious about the actions of Sauron as he seeks to amass his own power. The intricate storytelling and character development in the series promise to keep audiences captivated as the plot unfolds.

In a recent interview with Deadline, actors Daniel Weyman (who portrays Gandalf) and Charlie Vickers (who plays Sauron) shared insights into the significance of the upcoming season for their characters’ development. Weyman hinted that Gandalf’s journey will be filled with emotional moments, including a lot of “tears.” He expressed excitement about the multitude of potential challenges and mistakes that young Gandalf will face. “I’m looking forward to witnessing the numerous pitfalls and errors that he will learn from. For Gandalf to evolve into the wise figure we are all familiar with, he must first encounter some significant missteps, learning valuable lessons through hardship. I hope to see plenty of those moments that contribute to his growth into the wizard we all admire,” he commented.

Vickers contributed to the discussion by elaborating on Sauron’s motivations and his reaction to being spurned by Galadriel. He noted that despite this setback, Sauron is undeterred and is prepared to pursue his quest for power independently. “I feel very fortunate that Sauron in this era is highly focused on his objectives. We will experience a variety of thrilling developments that I believe fans are going to find incredibly engaging. With nearly all the rings crafted, there remains one crucial ring that he is determined to complete—a goal that has consumed him for centuries. I am genuinely excited to watch him embark on this journey, with the ambition to dominate Middle-earth. Everything seems promising for him, but not so much for others,” Vickers shared enthusiastically.
