Despite opinions on its necessity, Prime Video is evolving to resemble TikTok. This transformation is driven by Amazon’s recent announcement regarding a significant update to the Prime Video mobile app. The app now features a new Clips feed, designed for short, shareable video segments extracted from various Prime Video content. Initially developed with a focus on NBA games streamed on Prime Video, this enhancement is expected to extend to popular shows such as The Boys and other Prime original series. Users can easily access the Clips feed by scrolling down the home page to the Clips carousel and selecting any Clip they find appealing.
Prime Video will restrict basic users to HD streaming
Once users discover a Clip they enjoy, they have the option to share it with others by simply copying and pasting the provided link. Additionally, users can express their appreciation for Clips by liking them, or they can use these Clips as an entry point to explore the featured show or movie. Currently, this innovative feature is accessible to a select group of users in the United States, specifically on Android, iOS, and Fire Tablet devices. It is expected to roll out to a broader audience over the summer months, enhancing the viewing experience for many.

“As a premier entertainment hub, Prime Video strives to provide users with an extensive array of premium content, and we aim to facilitate the discovery of what resonates most with them,” commented Prime Video executive Brian Griffin. “The introduction of Clips presents a fresh avenue for customers to explore content through brief, personalized snippets that align with their preferences. Whether users have just a few minutes to browse or are seeking something to indulge in during their downtime, quality entertainment is only a tap away.”
The parallels to TikTok are unmistakable; however, it is important to clarify that, at least for the moment, users do not have the ability to create their own Clips. Essentially, this feature serves primarily as a marketing strategy for Amazon to promote Prime Video content to its audience. It is advisable to respond accordingly to this new development.
