Are you aware that a digital game you purchased on PlayStation years ago might soon result in a credit for your account? Sony has proposed a settlement of $7.85 million that aims to reimburse eligible U.S. customers for specific purchases made on the PlayStation Store. If your account is still active, you will receive automatic payments.

This article explains how to determine your eligibility and what steps will follow.

Which Digital PlayStation Purchases Are Eligible for Compensation?

This settlement applies to U.S. customers who bought qualifying digital games from the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023.

The list of eligible titles includes popular games such as The Last of Us Remastered, Until Dawn, No Man’s Sky, and NBA 2K18. It’s important to note that specific editions matter; for instance, the Bloodborne entry must be the Complete Edition Bundle to qualify.

The restrictions stem from a class-action lawsuit initiated in May 2021, challenging Sony’s decision to prohibit third-party retailers from selling game-specific download vouchers as of April 2019. Plaintiffs contended that this change forced consumers to exclusively purchase digital games from the PlayStation Store, thereby reducing market competition and inflating prices. Sony has denied any wrongdoing.

According to the settlement notice, eligible games had retail download vouchers available prior to April 2019, achieved at least 200 voucher redemptions before that date, and experienced a price increase of at least 50 cents after discounts during the relevant timeline. You can refer to the official list to check which games meet these criteria.

Is a Claim Submission Necessary for You?

If you are eligible, have an active PlayStation Network account, and did not choose to opt out, you do not need to submit a claim form. Your payment will be automatically credited as PlayStation Store wallet funds once the settlement receives final approval.

For customers with deactivated accounts, a different procedure applied. They were given until August 27, 2026, to submit qualifying purchase details and an updated mailing address to request a check. (This deadline has now passed.)

As of a court filing on September 3, lawyers reported that there were 438 requests for checks from eligible customers whose accounts were closed.

What Amount Can You Expect to Receive?

The payment amount is not fixed for each customer. Your compensation will be determined by the number of qualifying games you purchased; those with more eligible purchases will receive a larger payment.

Disbursements will come from the remaining balance of the $7.85 million fund after deductions approved by the court. These deductions may include attorneys’ fees up to 25 percent, legal and administrative costs, and any awards to named plaintiffs. Administrative costs alone are estimated to be between $180,000 and $190,000.

When Can You Expect to Receive Your Credits?

The final approval hearing is set for October 15, 2026. the settlement must be approved before any distribution can take place.

Once the credits are deposited, they will not expire and can be used on any products available in the PlayStation Store. Players are not required to spend the credits on the games that qualified them for reimbursement.

Mark your calendar for October 15, as the court’s decision on final approval will bring eligible players closer to receiving their credits.
