During this year’s I/O developer conference, Google showcased the remarkable capabilities of NotebookLM, its innovative AI-powered research and note-taking tool. Although this tool has been available for several years, Google has consistently enhanced its functionalities as advancements in AI technology emerged. To illustrate the latest features, the company created a comprehensive notebook that captures highlights from I/O 2025, which includes a full YouTube video of the keynote presentation, complete with a detailed transcript of the entire event, alongside press releases, informative blog posts, and engaging product demonstrations. Users can explore these resources individually, as Google has conveniently uploaded them as sources within the notebook. Alternatively, the powerful AI tool can help summarize and digest all the information efficiently.
With NotebookLM, you have the ability to inquire about any aspect of the event using the chat feature, allowing for quick access to specific details you might be interested in. For example, when I asked what NotebookLM is, the tool provided an answer that closely reflected the announcements made during the conference. The response indicated that “according to Google’s announcements at I/O, NotebookLM becomes an ‘expert’ by grounding its responses in the provided material, offering creative ways to transform information.”
In the Studio section of its interface, you can generate audio summaries that provide either a quick overview or a more detailed spoken recap of the information you have uploaded. Additionally, you can create a Mind Map that visually organizes your uploaded sources, illustrating one primary topic branching out into several subtopics and related ideas. Mind Maps are designed to present information in a format that enhances understanding and retention. However, it is important to remember, as Google noted in its announcement, that “like all AI, NotebookLM can generate inaccuracies,” a crucial consideration for users when interacting with this tool.
In conjunction with I/O 2025, Google has launched an official app for NotebookLM, now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms. To access the I/O 2025 notebook, users must be signed into their Google account.
