While some users might perceive Facebook as a relic of the past, many have embraced its evolution, particularly with the introduction of Facebook Marketplace, which has become a modern alternative to Craigslist.
Recognizing this shift, Meta has introduced a dedicated app specifically designed for the backbone of Facebook Marketplace: its sellers. This new app, named Seller, was launched on Friday and equips users with essential tools for listing products and managing their current inventory.
Similar to Facebook Marketplace, the Seller app is free to download and use. Meta generates revenue through advertisements on the Marketplace without taking a cut from the sales made by users. Beginning today, users can easily download the app and log in using their Facebook credentials.

The Seller app offers robust features for users, including a straightforward tool for posting new listings, a comprehensive dashboard for managing existing listings, an in-app messaging system for communicating with potential buyers, and detailed analytics for past listings.
The app brings innovative functionalities. According to Facebook, Seller allows users to scan their products using their smartphones, enabling the app’s AI to automatically populate listing details.
In an interview with the New York Times, Tom Allison, head of Facebook, described the app as a vital resource for Marketplace sellers, akin to how video editing tools support content creators. He also shared that Meta is exploring additional standalone applications tailored for Facebook’s dedicated users, including Marketplace sellers and Facebook Groups administrators.
As users gravitate toward rival platforms like TikTok and Meta’s own Instagram, Facebook has rejuvenated its presence through targeted features. Earlier this year, Facebook launched a separate app called Forum aimed at enhancing the experience for Facebook Groups users. Now, similar efforts are underway for sellers on Facebook Marketplace.
Meta reports that approximately one-third of young adults on Facebook also utilize the Marketplace. Each month, the platform sees over 420 million items listed, showcasing its significant activity and relevance.
