As the anticipated price hike for Philips Hue products in the US rolls out next month, consumers may find themselves looking for answers regarding the increase. The culprit? A certain individual whose name rhymes with “rump.” The parent company, Signify, disclosed to Hueblog (as reported by The Verge) that these adjustments in pricing are “a direct result of tariffs.” This sheds light on the situation, doesn’t it, Amazon?
Before this official clarification, Signify had only offered vague hints about a price escalation on the horizon. Earlier marketing materials warned consumers, “Hurry, prices go up on July 1.” This urgency was meant to prompt immediate action from prospective buyers.
Signify’s recent communication with Hueblog clearly identifies the challenges posed by Trump’s trade war as the reason for this price surge. The company stated, “Signify will increase prices on our Philips Hue portfolio in the US, effective July 1, 2025, as a direct result of tariffs.” They emphasized their commitment to delivering exceptional smart lighting products and features while also reserving the right to adjust prices in response to any future tariffs.
While the precise details of the price increases remain under wraps, the company has indicated that specifics will be disclosed when the changes are implemented on July 1. However, some clues are already emerging. For instance, the newly upgraded Hue smart button is priced at $32, contrasting with the previous model’s $25. Interestingly, if you think this increase is due to the new version, it’s worth noting that the product has retained its price at €21.99 in Europe. Historically, the US pricing has closely mirrored this 1:1 conversion rate.
