The launch of the Switch 2 has introduced exciting features, including the Joy-Con “mouse”, but it faces competition from traditional USB mouse support. One of the standout launch titles for Nintendo’s new console, Nobunga’s Ambition: Awakening CE, allows gamers to connect a traditional pointing device for enhanced gameplay. Developer Koei Tecmo has assured that this feature will operate “seamlessly,” providing an intuitive experience for players.
In Nobunga’s Ambition, players can effortlessly switch between using a controller and a USB mouse without any hassle. According to Michi Ryu, a representative from Koei Tecmo, once the USB mouse is connected, a notification will appear in the top-left corner of the screen confirming the connection. “When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2. As you can see, you can switch instantly. It’s very smooth,” he explained in a video that has been translated from Japanese.
This leads us to ponder the implications for other mouse-friendly games on the Switch 2 platform. An intriguing title that comes to mind is Civilization VII, another launch game that could benefit from mouse support. We have reached out to 2K Games via email to inquire about this feature, and we will keep you updated should we receive any information.
It’s important to recognize that while the Joy-Con mouse support on the Switch 2 is commendable, as noted by Engadget‘s Sam Rutherford during his hands-on experience, having the option to use a traditional mouse adds versatility for gamers. Let’s face it, the precision of a real mouse can offer an unbeatable gaming experience.
Interestingly, the original Switch also had support for USB mice, although this was not widely known. For instance, Nintendo’s visual programming tool, Game Builder Garage, allowed users to utilize USB mice. However, the increased number of games that support the Joy-Con mouse on the Switch 2 makes it a significantly more appealing feature this time around.
