A recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) by Nintendo has provided crucial insights into the highly anticipated Switch 2, particularly clarifying that Amiibo support will continue. This revelation is significant for fans of the franchise, as Amiibo figures have become an integral part of the gaming experience, allowing players to unlock exclusive in-game content and enhance their gameplay. The FCC filing also confirms that the Switch 2 will be equipped with near-field communication (NFC) technology, which is essential for enabling the interaction with Amiibo figures to unlock various in-game content. According to a report by The Verge, this new console will feature two distinct USB-C charging ports — strategically positioned one on the top and the other on the bottom for user convenience. Moreover, it will support advanced Wi-Fi connectivity, specifically Wi-Fi 6, allowing for enhanced online experiences with increased bandwidth capacity of up to 80MHz. These features are designed to optimize the gaming experience for players seeking high-performance capabilities.

The upcoming Switch 2 has been a topic of speculation since its initial teaser in January, which showcased a redesigned casing and new color options. Additionally, the revamped Joy-Con controllers were introduced, which promise a more innovative gaming experience. Notably, a public patent revealed that the updated design for the Joy-Con controllers would function less like traditional gamepads and more akin to a computer mouse, potentially offering players greater movement options and control. While these features are exciting, all specifics will be officially unveiled during Nintendo’s major Switch 2 launch event scheduled for April 2, leaving fans eagerly anticipating further details.
