Anticipate the Arrival of the New Momentum 5 Headphones on June 16 for $400
After nearly four years since the launch of the Momentum 4 headphones, Sennheiser is introducing their latest innovation, the Momentum 5 Wireless. This new model retains a design reminiscent of its predecessor, yet it features significant internal improvements. Sennheiser promises enhanced audio quality and upgraded active noise cancellation (ANC), although the retail price comes with a $50 increase over the Momentum 4.
The Momentum 5 continues to utilize the same 42mm transducers found in the Momentum 4, which were influenced by Sennheiser’s legendary HD 600 series headphones. These transducers are specifically tuned to deliver “full-bodied sound” alongside “dynamic bass.” The fifth-generation model introduces Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound, enabling Bluetooth codec support, including aptX Lossless. The updated Smart Control Plus app now features an 8-band EQ, audio presets, and sound personalization options. the Momentum 5 is compatible with Sennheiser’s BTD 700 lossless Bluetooth dongle, first launched with the HDB 630 headphones.
To further enhance sound quality, Sennheiser has planned digital signal processing (DSP) Bluetooth updates. A “day one update” will introduce Dolby Atmos support with head tracking for an immersive listening experience when enjoying compatible content. Initially, the headphones will support Dolby Atmos without the head tracking feature. The Momentum 5 will ship with Bluetooth 5.4, but it is designed to be compatible with the forthcoming Bluetooth 6.0, which will be available through a firmware update.
Improvements to ANC performance are also notable. Sennheiser has added two extra microphones per ear cup, totaling four microphones on each side. This upgrade promises comprehensive enhancements, claiming up to three times more effective noise cancellation of human voices. the added microphones should offer “more natural voice quality on calls,” according to Sennheiser’s statements.
Battery life is another area where the Momentum 5 differs from its predecessor. While the Momentum 4 was rated for an impressive 60 hours of use with ANC enabled, the new model is rated for 57 hours. Although this represents a slight decrease, it still offers substantial usage time. The Momentum 5 features a quick charge capability, providing up to three hours of playback after just five minutes of charging. the 700mAh battery is user-replaceable, requiring only a small Phillips-head screwdriver for the swap.
The Momentum 5 Wireless headphones will officially launch on June 16 at a price of $400. Customers can choose from three color options: black, white, and blue.
