iPhone SE and iPhone 14 Removed from EU Stores by Apple

Apple enthusiasts eager to purchase the latest iPhone SE or iPhone 14 models in the European Union will be disappointed as these devices are no longer available. This significant change comes as part of Apple’s compliance with new regulations set by the EU.

As of Saturday, December 28, all of Apple’s devices that utilize Lightning ports have been completely removed from store shelves. This move aligns with the European Union’s recent mandate that establishes USB-C as the standard for charging smartphones, tablets, and various electronic gadgets.

Devices such as the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE were officially taken off the Apple Store’s inventory on Friday, as reported by MacRumors. This action represents a significant shift in Apple’s product line within the EU market, reflecting the company’s adaptation to evolving consumer electronics standards.

The Lightning-based devices are now unavailable on the online Apple Store across numerous EU countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The Verge has also confirmed that these products have been fully withdrawn from Apple’s EU retail locations.

It is important to note that this legislation is only applicable within EU territories, allowing Apple to continue selling Lightning products in markets such as the United States and other regions globally.

The EU’s USB-C charging mandate was officially approved in 2022, compelling tech companies to transition to this universal charging standard by the end of 2024. In a significant announcement, Apple confirmed that the iPhone 15 would be the first device to replace the traditional Lightning port with the USB-C standard. By September 2024, Apple is expected to have replaced all devices utilizing the Lightning connection with USB-C alternatives.

Although the iPhone 14 has been succeeded by the iPhone 15 and upcoming iPhone 16, the iPhone SE has not seen an update since 2022. Consequently, consumers in the EU interested in Apple’s most affordable iPhone model will have to exercise patience. Anticipation builds as Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone SE featuring a USB-C charging port in March.
