Discover the Exciting Updates on the Upcoming Musical Film Wicked: For Good

It was just a month ago that the beloved musical Wicked began captivating audiences across the globe, and it hasn’t been long since we learned that the second installment will be titled Wicked: For Good. Although Universal Pictures is keeping the details of the sequel under wraps, co-lead actress Cynthia Erivo has been generating buzz about significant changes in the upcoming film, especially regarding the musical score.

During a recent guest appearance on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Erivo shared insights into her portrayal of Elphaba, the character who ultimately transforms into the infamous Wicked Witch. She revealed that she has been collaborating closely with the renowned composer, Stephen Schwartz, to craft an entirely new song specifically for her character. Without disclosing too much, she hinted that “even the title will move you. I don’t know if you’re ready for it. When we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying. […] I hope audiences are ready—it’s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.”

It’s worth noting that in 2022, Schwartz mentioned there would be two original songs introduced in the second act of Wicked “to meet the [storytelling’s] demands.” The musical adjustments in the first film primarily involved modifications to characters or settings to align with its transition from stage to screen, yet the essence of the songs remained the same. By introducing fresh melodies for both Elphaba and Glinda, the film aims to provide an invigorating experience for both long-time fans and newcomers alike. This approach enhances the anticipation surrounding Wicked: For Good, making it feel like a true cinematic event. Additionally, these new songs are sure to be crowd-pleasers when the film is eventually released with a sing-along version.
