Exciting Upgrades Await: The Launch of Revamped Siri and Apple Devices
Anticipation builds as the updated Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini are set to arrive in stores shortly. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported in the latest edition of the Power On newsletter that the hardware for both devices has been finalized for several months and is currently in use by Apple employees at the Cupertino headquarters.
The last significant enhancement to Apple’s streaming device occurred in 2022, which introduced the powerful A15 Bionic chip and increased storage capacity. This chip, also found in the iPhone 14, could make the 2022 Apple TV 4K less competitive compared to newer devices such as the Google TV Streamer or the Roku Ultra. The HomePod mini, released in late 2020, only underwent a slight aesthetic update with a new midnight color option in July 2024. Gurman mentioned that the refresh for both devices might primarily involve integrating the latest chips, and consumers should not anticipate any major design changes or new features. Nonetheless, there is a possibility of a minor redesign for the Apple TV 4K’s remote control.
For those eager to upgrade their Apple TV 4K or HomePod mini, the delay can be attributed to the challenging launch of the updated Siri, now branded as Apple Intelligence. Gurman noted that these smart home devices were originally scheduled to debut alongside the new Siri but experienced postponements lasting several months. With the revamped Siri expected to launch this fall, the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini will provide Apple with a platform to showcase the enhancements made to Siri.
