Iman Shumpert Claims Teyana Taylor Breached Their Divorce Agreement
According to reports from In Touch, Iman Shumpert filed a legal motion in court on Monday, May 5, alleging that Teyana violated their divorce agreement established in July 2024 by speaking out on Instagram Live back in March. During her broadcast, the talented singer, known for her hit “Gonna Love Me,” intended to clarify the misconceptions surrounding their legal disputes. However, Shumpert reportedly took issue with her disclosures. In the court documents, he claims that Teyana “willfully and contemptuously” revealed private aspects of their financial arrangements and settlement, jeopardizing not only his privacy but also the safety and well-being of their children.
Shumpert asserts that Teyana’s actions during her Instagram Live session have adversely affected his emotional state, financial situation, and public image. Consequently, he is seeking legal repercussions, including a charge of criminal contempt against her and a potential fine of $1,000. Furthermore, he has requested that she serve up to 20 days in jail for exposing their divorce matters publicly, which he believes is wholly inappropriate.
Iman Shumpert Raises Concerns About Co-Parenting and Children’s Well-Being
In his motion, Shumpert did not stop at accusing Teyana of breaching their agreement; he also highlighted concerns regarding their co-parenting relationship. He claims that Teyana has been disparaging him in front of their daughters, Junie and Rue Rose, which has created significant stress for the children, forcing them to act as “peacemakers” between their parents. This situation is clearly detrimental to their emotional health and stability.
Shumpert also detailed a specific incident on April 17, where he alleges that Teyana prevented him from picking the children up from school. He expressed concern about another instance where she reportedly withdrew the girls from school without justification, further complicating their parenting dynamic.
Teyana Taylor Responds to Legal Challenges Following Her Instagram Live
Despite the escalating tensions, Teyana Taylor is not taking Iman’s accusations lightly. Although she has not publicly addressed Iman’s latest court motion, she previously responded to allegations made in March, which accused her of attempting to file a contempt petition against him. At that time, TMZ reported that Teyana was frustrated by the “false claims” being circulated regarding the nature of her divorce, prompting her to speak up. She clarified that there was no official “settlement” in their separation, as the court had already ruled on asset distribution.
According to the same publication, Teyana accused Iman of leaking negative narratives about her to the media, especially during a time when she was thriving in her career. She notably shone at an Oscars after-party in February alongside actor Aaron Pierre, but soon after, the media began to circulate misleading divorce stories again. Teyana firmly believes that these narratives were deliberately timed and are not coincidental.
Teyana made a clear statement in her Instagram Live session, asserting that she never sought jail time for Iman, questioning the benefit of such an action for herself. “How would that benefit me?” she asked her viewers, before elaborating on the complexities of the situation.
