Foldable iPhone Leaks Reveal Camera and Touch ID Details

The latest buzz around Apple’s innovative technology brings us exciting rumors about a potential foldable iPhone. This speculation continues to grow as new insights emerge almost weekly, revealing that Apple is indeed working on a groundbreaking device that could redefine the smartphone market.

According to reports from 9To5Mac, a prominent Korean blog named yeux1122 has shared intriguing details sourced from the Chinese social media site Weibo. This information suggests that the upcoming foldable iPhone will feature a modern punch-hole camera design situated on its external display. Notably, the internal display is expected to measure an impressive 7.76 inches with a high resolution of 2713 x 1920p, while the external display will be 5.49 inches with a resolution of 2088 x 1422p. These specifications closely resemble those of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, indicating a competitive edge in design.

The inclusion of a punch-hole camera on the external display aligns with a previous report from renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who indicated that the foldable iPhone would utilize a Touch ID side button, similar to that found on the iPad Air. This marks a significant departure from the ubiquitous Face ID technology that has been a staple since the launch of the iPhone X. Unlike the facial recognition system, Touch ID unlocks the device using a fingerprint sensor, offering a different approach to security.

Kuo elaborated that the decision to implement Touch ID instead of Face ID is primarily driven by concerns regarding thickness and internal space constraints. This suggests that integrating a Face ID sensor into the foldable display may not be feasible. In contrast, both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which are competing devices in the foldable smartphone arena, feature facial recognition, although user feedback has indicated potential inefficiencies with this technology.

If the information holds true, it could imply that the foldable iPhone may not incorporate the pill-shaped Dynamic Island feature on its display, which typically provides users with quick access to apps and notifications. This lack of integration could influence user experience and interaction with the device.

Rumors surrounding foldable iPhones and iPads have circulated for several years, often leaving Apple enthusiasts disappointed by their absence in the product lineup. However, the current momentum suggests that we might finally see a foldable iPhone in the near future. Speculations indicate that it could potentially debut as early as late 2026, a timeline supported by both Kuo and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, both of whom are regarded as reliable sources within the tech community.

As always, it is essential to approach these rumors with caution. Nevertheless, the specificity of the details regarding the design of the foldable iPhone could indicate that a launch may be on the horizon, stirring excitement among tech enthusiasts.
