Elementary Principal Arrested for Hosting Underage Party

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has apprehended 36-year-old Jeremy McBride after a friend of his estranged wife, 25-year-old Kayla Netherland, alerted authorities. The witness reported seeing McBride standing over Netherland in her bathroom, where she had been shot five times, leading to the swift police response and investigation.

According to the witness, she arrived at the residence on Sunday, January 19, to do laundry and was shocked to find McBride looming over Netherland, who was lying on the floor and bleeding profusely. This horrifying scene prompted an immediate call to the police.

The witness recounted that McBride made eye contact with her before calmly walking out the front door without uttering a single word. She informed the police that she overheard him during a phone conversation mentioning that someone had been shot, which added to the urgency of the situation.

Emergency responders acted quickly, transporting the victim to the hospital where medical personnel managed to stabilize the five-month-pregnant woman. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they were unable to save her unborn child, marking a tragic outcome for this already heart-wrenching case.

Using advanced license plate reader technology, law enforcement officials tracked down McBride and pulled him over. During the stop, he failed to secure his vehicle in park, causing it to roll and collide with a nearby pole, as detailed in the arrest affidavit.

Upon being apprehended, McBride allegedly stated to the arresting officer, “I was going to turn myself into the police station,” and expressed concern by asking, “Is she okay?” This response raised further questions about his state of mind at the time of the arrest.

A woman who contacted the police shortly after the shooting claimed that McBride had confessed to her about the murder, indicating he was on his way to the police station to turn himself in. This conversation possibly occurred just before the witness encountered McBride standing over Netherland.

McBride informed police that the firearm used in the shooting was located inside his vehicle, according to court documents. Additionally, authorities reported discovering handwritten notes from him addressed to Netherland, which discussed their tumultuous relationship and his emotional turmoil.

Detectives revealed that McBride had expressed his frustrations regarding Netherland’s alleged infidelity, his emotional struggles stemming from their failing relationship, and his feelings of inadequacy. His writings indicated a belief that he had not evolved into the kind of man she would want as a father for their future children, showcasing deep-seated insecurities.

During a post-Miranda interview on January 20, McBride disclosed to investigators that he was distressed over the fact that he and Netherland were still legally married while she was pregnant with another man’s child. Although they had been separated since September, he still clung to the hope of reconciling their relationship.

In a troubling admission, McBride reportedly wrote, “Maybe she will come back someday, but not for me. But in many ways, I killed her.” This statement highlights the gravity of his alleged actions and the psychological turmoil he experienced.

“What’s alleged is that this individual went to great lengths to carry out what he intended to do,” stated Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, emphasizing the calculated nature of the crime, as reported by Fox59.

McBride allegedly confessed to authorities that he had formulated a chilling plan to kill both Netherland and their unborn child, as well as himself. He claimed to have purchased a firearm and ammunition only days prior to the tragic shooting incident, indicating premeditation.

According to McBride, he and Netherland spent time together at various locations, including a visit to Goodwill, before returning to her home. He recounted that they were engaged in casual conversation in the bathroom and on the bed when he arrived at a moment of clarity where he believed shooting her “made sense in that moment,” revealing a disturbing mindset.

Ultimately, he followed through on his chilling decision, shooting her five times in the back, a brutal act that speaks volumes about the psychological state he was in.

“This individual made admissions about what his actual intentions were and he was fully aware of her pregnancy, which was a motivating factor in his actions,” stated Prosecutor Mears. Such honesty with law enforcement is rare in cases of violent crime, highlighting the complexity of this disturbing incident.

Detectives in Marion County reported that Netherland underwent two critical surgeries following the shooting; one was to remove the fetus that tragically did not survive, and the other was to address her severe internal injuries caused by the shooting.

“She was five months pregnant with her miracle baby, after multiple failed pregnancies in the past, and she has lost her child due to this outrageous crime committed against her,” expressed Netherland’s family to WRTV. “Fortunately, she is alive and not paralyzed, thank God.” This statement reflects the emotional toll that this incident has taken on her family.

The family further revealed that during the surgical procedures, medical professionals had to remove a portion of Netherland’s colon, part of her small intestine, her left ovary, and left fallopian tube, in addition to making necessary repairs to her uterus, highlighting the severity of her injuries.

McBride now faces serious charges including attempted murder and feticide, and he is currently being held at Marion County Jail without bond, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the legal consequences he will face.
