Confession of a Husband: The Heartbreaking Case of Kayla’s Unborn Rainbow Baby
An affidavit from the Indianapolis Metro PD details a disturbing phone call made on January 19 regarding the shooting incident. A female witness arrived at Kayla’s residence to do laundry, only to discover Jeremy McBride standing next to her bleeding body on the bathroom floor. The witness reported that McBride appeared to be on the phone, claiming someone had been shot. He fled the scene before police arrived, but later called the witness to inform her that he was turning himself in, raising further alarm about his state of mind.
Law enforcement quickly tracked McBride before he could reach the police station, leading to a traffic stop that resulted in his arrest. During this encounter, he informed officers that the gun used in the shooting was in his vehicle, which was later confirmed. Following a search warrant, investigators uncovered an extended magazine clip and two loaded handgun magazines, highlighting the premeditated nature of his actions.
In a chilling confession to the police, Jeremy McBride admitted to orchestrating the shooting of his estranged wife and the murder of their unborn child, revealing his intentions to also take his own life. He disclosed that he had practiced his aim several times prior to the attack. The bullets that hit Kayla tragically penetrated her abdomen, resulting in the loss of her 20-week-old fetus—a loss compounded by McBride’s expressed jealousy over not being the father.
“McBride admitted to thinking of his plans over the course of several days, and stated that he shot his wife multiple times while she was turned away from him in the residence,” the probable cause affidavit states.
Prosecutors indicated that McBride was distressed over Kayla’s pregnancy, citing their struggles with infertility as a backdrop to his violent actions. He alleged that she had been unfaithful and had become pregnant with another man’s child, despite the couple’s divorce not being finalized. Written notes found in his possession detailed his intense feelings of rage and jealousy regarding paternity, underscoring the psychological turmoil he was experiencing.
“Maybe she will come back one day, but not for me. But in many ways, I killed her,” Jeremy McBride reportedly commented, reflecting a deeply troubled mindset.
Update on Kayla’s Health: A Family’s Struggle After a Violent Crime
Kayla’s family provided an update to WRTV, confirming that she has undergone multiple surgeries following the shooting. While she is currently recovering, it remains uncertain whether the 25-year-old will be able to conceive again. The emotional toll of losing her rainbow baby in such a horrific manner has left her family devastated, yet she has not publicly addressed her loss.
“She was 5 months pregnant with her miracle baby, after several failed pregnancies in the past, and she has lost her baby due to this outrageous crime committed against her. She is alive and not paralyzed, thank God, but she has already undergone several surgeries including the removal of her left ovary, left fallopian tube, part of her small intestine, and part of her colon, and some repairs have been made to her uterus,” the family shared.
As previously noted, Jeremy McBride is currently in custody at the Marion County Jail facing charges of attempted murder, intentional killing of another, and feticide. He appeared for his initial hearing in the case on Friday, January 24, as the legal proceedings begin to unfold.
