After the success of Alexandre Aja’s 2019 horror film Crawl, fans are eager for the next chapter in this thrilling saga. Paramount is gearing up for production on the highly anticipated sequel.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film will feature two well-known actors in leading roles. Mason Gooding, recognized for his performances in I Want Your Sex and 72 Hours, returns to the horror genre as a Scream veteran. He will be joined by Emily Rudd, a star from One Piece. Rudd has a solid background in horror, having appeared in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, and she is set to feature in the upcoming underwater thriller Whalefall, which releases in a few months.
Filming for Crawl 2 will kick off later this month in Hungary. While the original film was set in a Florida home besieged by alligators during a hurricane, this sequel takes the action to New York City in the aftermath of a similar disaster. The first installment was a box office success, grossing $91 million, prompting Paramount to initiate plans for the sequel back in 2024. Aja had mentioned at that time that he intended to dive into this project following the release of his forthcoming film Never Let Go.
Aja is certainly keeping busy. to Crawl 2, he is set to direct Under Paris 2, a follow-up to his horror-thriller about an underwater menace. In this case, the terror comes from a shark lurking in the Seine River rather than an alligator. Aja is also collaborating on the screenplay for the Dead by Daylight movie, which will be directed by Thordur Palsson.
