Trista Sutter Reveals Her Inspiring Journey to Join Special Forces After Initial Reluctance and Addresses Fan Speculations About Her Husband Ryan’s Social Media Posts
Trista Sutter is candidly sharing her motivations behind seizing the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to participate in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. In a world where reality shows often highlight superficial challenges, Trista’s decision stands out as a testament to her resilience and courage.
During an exclusive interview with TooFab at FOX’s Winter Press Day, The Bachelorette alum articulated the profound moment that prompted her to reconsider her initial rejection of the show. She reflected on how the overwhelming responsibilities of motherhood had caused her to feel as though she had lost a sense of herself, which ultimately ignited her desire to embrace the challenges of military training.

Trista Sutter’s Empowering Decision to Join Special Forces
Trista, who is a proud mother to son Maxwell, 17, and daughter Blakesley, 15, with her husband Ryan Sutter, disclosed that her initial response to the offer for Special Forces was one of hesitance. She shared the personal journey that led her to ultimately change her mind and embrace this bold opportunity.
“‘How could you be so crazy?’ she recalled her thoughts. Initially, I said no—not to the producers at FOX, but to my agent,” she recounted to TooFab. “I felt this show was probably not meant for me; it was more suited for my husband. He would have loved to participate. However, after much contemplation and discussions with Ryan, I realized I was at a pivotal stage in my life where I had dedicated so much to my family.”
“You know, my children are just a couple of years away from heading off to college, making Ryan and me empty nesters,” Trista continued at age 52. “While I am incredibly proud of them and support their endeavors, I have poured my heart and soul into being a mother for nearly 18 years. I find myself questioning my identity outside of motherhood. It’s easy to feel lost when you spend so long caring for others.”
The Bachelor alum emphasized that her decision to participate in the show was ultimately for her own personal growth and empowerment.

“I wanted to remind myself of who I am and that I am capable of facing difficult challenges. I also wanted to demonstrate to my children that their mother is brave, not just someone who folds laundry,” Trista laughed, adding, “It’s truly a remarkable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so naturally, I had to say yes.”
While she cannot disclose specific details about her experiences on the show, she admitted to reaching her “breaking point” multiple times throughout the process.
“I feel like everyone experiences these moments on the show,” Sutter explained. “You encounter numerous breaking points because, frankly, how could you not? You are engaging in activities that few people ever get to experience, designed to push you beyond your limits.”
Regarding how she managed to persevere through those challenging moments, Trista shared, “I focused on my family, knowing that I wanted to make them proud. That motivation played a significant role in my determination.”
“I heard an incredible quote before I started from one of the medics,” she recalled. “He said, ‘Be naive enough to start and stubborn enough to finish.’ I’m definitely on the stubborn side.”

Trista Sutter Addresses Speculation Surrounding Ryan’s Social Media Activity
In a related discussion during her interview with TooFab, Trista openly addressed the cryptic posts shared by her husband Ryan earlier this year that garnered significant media attention.
Back in May, Ryan, 50, posted several messages on Instagram, which hinted at Trista’s absence in the captions. These posts ignited speculation regarding the reasons behind her absence from the family, leading to rumors about potential marital issues between the couple.
Last month, Trista confirmed that the reason for her mysterious absence was related to her participation in filming Special Forces.
While speaking with TooFab, Trista reflected on the wild speculation and rumors from May, sharing that she recently revisited Ryan’s posts that had sparked such a frenzy.
“You can lay the rumors to rest. It’s no longer cryptic,” she stated, adding clarity about Ryan’s posts. “When you read them in context, knowing I was away filming this show, everything makes sense. However, out of context, it can lead people to think, ‘Oh! Are they getting a divorce? Is she going through a breakdown?’”
“And I did experience some intensity, but that was because I was on the show,” Trista continued, referring to the demanding nature of the reality series. “Ryan simply wanted to express how much he missed me and loved me, and that’s what I chose to focus on.”
