Verizon Fios has launched an impressive new 5Gbps plan, more than doubling the speed of its previous top-tier 2Gbps service. This plan is offered at $105 per month in select areas, with an attractive option of just $90 per month for customers who switch from other providers, available for a five-year term.
While this speed does not quite match Google Fiber’s $150 Edge 8Gbps plan, it stands out as a more affordable choice, aligning closely with Google’s $100 3Gbps service. The 5Gbps speed—equivalent to approximately 625MB/s—enables users to download large game patches, such as 100GB updates, in mere seconds (specifically, 2.7 minutes). This speed is ideal for modern households where multiple devices, including VR headsets, home security cameras, work-related video calls, and smart home systems, operate simultaneously, as Verizon proudly highlights.
Currently, Verizon is providing a promotional switching offer for new Fios customers at an exceptional rate of $90 per month for the first five years, as mentioned on their Fios home plan page and in their press release. Existing Fios customers upgrading to this plan can also benefit from a three-year price lock at the regular rate of $105 per month. New customers transitioning to the 5 Gig plan can secure this promotional rate with an industry-leading five-year price guarantee, according to Verizon’s announcement.
Although Verizon’s new plan may not hold the title for the fastest internet service—currently belonging to Ziply’s $900 per month 50Gbps plan—it certainly represents strong value in the market. For context, AT&T’s equivalent 5Gbps plan is priced at $135 per month, or $95 per month for the first year for new customers.
