Vincent Pastore, the beloved actor celebrated for his portrayal of Salvatore “Big P” Bonpensiero in the acclaimed series “The Sopranos,” has sadly passed away, as confirmed by TMZ.
The actor was discovered deceased in his Bronx home by his close friend, Stephen Villano, on Saturday afternoon after several days of silence. As of now, his family has not disclosed the cause of death.
The New York City Fire Department received an emergency call regarding an unresponsive male at approximately 2:30 PM on Saturday. Upon arrival, they found that Pastore had already passed away. The NYPD subsequently initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Pastore served in the Navy during the Vietnam War before pursuing an acting degree at Pace University. His acting career took off in his early 40s with his first role in the film “Black Roses.”
He quickly became a familiar face in mob-themed films, appearing in classics such as “Goodfellas,” “Carlito’s Way,” “Men of Respect,” and “Witness to the Mob.”
In 1999, Vincent secured the iconic role of Big P, appearing in 30 episodes across the show’s seven seasons. He portrayed a loyal member of Tony Soprano’s crew who ultimately becomes an informant for the FBI.
His impressive filmography also includes roles in “Shark Tale,” “Spinning Gold,” “Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” and “Yellowjackets.”
In his later years, Vincent appeared on reality television, notably competing on “Celebrity Fit Club” and “Dancing with the Stars.” He withdrew from the latter after just one week due to the physical challenges it presented.
He also participated in the “Celebrity Apprentice” during Donald Trump’s tenure as host. In a memorable moment, he staged a confrontation with teammate Piers Morgan to mislead the opposing team and gather intelligence, reminiscent of his character’s cunning tactics in ‘The Sopranos.’
He is survived by his daughter Renee. Vincent Pastore was 80 years old.
Rest in Peace.
