Tyler Perry recently caused a stir across social media when he candidly discussed his financial limits with family members! The renowned entertainment mogul revealed during his appearance on Kirk Franklin’s ‘Den of Kings’ that he has previously established a firm boundary between his family and his finances. In a notable instance, he took the significant step of terminating an aunt from her position within his business, and he also turned down an outrageous request for $1 million. This level of honesty has sparked discussions about financial responsibility and familial expectations.

Tyler Perry Advocates for Financial Independence Over Handouts
During the enlightening discussion, Perry engaged with notable guests Jeezy and Derrick Hayes, who is the CEO of Dave’s Cheesesteaks and the spouse of Pinky Cole, the founder of Slutty Vegan. Approximately 16 minutes into their compelling dialogue, Franklin praised Jeezy for his sustained success in the music industry and inquired about the challenges of managing relationships with long-time supporters while navigating newfound wealth. The conversation naturally steered towards the complicated feelings surrounding obligations to family and friends who have witnessed one’s ascent to success.
“There’s this automatic tension of what do I owe. How much do I owe back? Who do I have to bring along? How do I have to let some go? It’s like boss-ology and family,” Franklin asked. Adding, “How do y’all struggle with that tension?”
Tyler Perry immediately weighed in with his direct perspective! He recounted an experience where he had to reclaim a job from his aunt after she mishandled her responsibilities. “I fired my aunt,” he stated, eliciting laughter from the table, with Jeezy expressing understanding by saying, “I feel him.” Perry elaborated that his aunt frequently reached out for financial assistance, prompting him to shift gears. He wanted to empower her to create something of her own rather than simply providing monetary support akin to “welfare.” However, after a series of tardy arrivals and absences from work, he ultimately decided to let her go.
“You want me to hand you the money, but you don’t want to work for it. That doesn’t work for me, and it’s the same way with my son, like he’s 10 years old. Like there’s certain things that he wants, he has to do chores and work for it. I don’t believe in giving us things that’s gonna handicap us. That is the worst thing you can do and I’ve had family members that I’ve done that to because my mother has asked me to,” Tyler Perry said.
Following the passing of his mother in 2009, Tyler Perry made a decisive move by informing his relatives that he was cutting off financial support. He issued a clear ultimatum, giving them 60 days to get their financial affairs in order before he would stop providing for them. Perry stated unequivocally that he followed through on this decision, which resulted in all his family members finding employment.

As their engaging conversation unfolded, Hayes inquired about Perry’s experiences with relatives demanding higher financial compensation. “I have family who got mad at me cause I wouldn’t give them a million dollars,” Perry candidly responded. Hayes, who was celebrating his birthday at the gathering, revealed that he was facing similar challenges with his own family. Perry advised Hayes that if he is serious about building a successful empire, he must be cautious of those family members who might inadvertently undermine his efforts.
“So sometimes you build a boat by yourself. Y’all all wait over here on the shore. Stay here I’m building this boat, I’m gonna go and build this and then I’m gonna come back and see who’s worthy to come. Because anybody that’s gon drag you down, or put holes in the boat or try to destroy you, why bring them over?,” Tyler Perry said.

Did The Actor From ‘The Oval’ Misstep in His Lawsuit Against Perry?
In June, ‘The Oval’ actor Derek Dixon garnered significant attention when he filed a staggering $260 million lawsuit against Tyler Perry. The legal action alleges that the entertainment mogul exploited his industry influence to create a coercive and sexually exploitative environment. Dixon further claims that Perry subjected him to sexual harassment, assault, battery, and professional retaliation, raising serious concerns about workplace conduct and ethics.
Moreover, Dixon submitted screenshots of text messages exchanged between himself and Perry, which indicated discussions about career advancement and maintaining their friendship discreetly to avoid conflicts with co-workers. Perry’s legal representation has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as unfounded and suggesting that Derek Dixon’s intentions were nothing more than an attempt to orchestrate a deceitful scheme against him. Tyler Perry has not publicly commented on the ongoing lawsuit.
