Hayden Panettiere’s tragic passing is currently under investigation following a 911 audio call that suggested a possible overdose. The 36-year-old actress was found deceased on Sunday, August 16, in Greenville, South Carolina.

Hayden Panettiere Discovered Unresponsive
The Greenville Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive woman at an apartment located in the Judson Mill Lofts on Easley Bridge Road around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and attempted CPR. Unfortunately, the ‘Hero’ actress was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the Greenville Police Department in a statement to NBC News.
“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the report states. “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.”
Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, also released a heartfelt statement confirming his daughter’s passing.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the statement expresses.
Investigation Reveals No Signs of Foul Play in Hayden Panettiere’s Death
The Greenville Police Department has yet to disclose an official cause of death. they have indicated that their investigation found no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding the actress’s demise.
“The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances,” the statement notes. “An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere made the 911 call.”
Panettiere’s publicist, Kasey Kitchen, confirmed that an investigation into the actress’s death is ongoing.
“There’s an investigation ongoing,” Kitchen stated. “We should know more tomorrow.”
911 Audio Indicates Possible Overdose, No Official Cause of Death Confirmed
The Greenville County Coroner has not yet provided an official cause of death. Nonetheless, there are reports that the 911 audio referenced an overdose, according to WYFF 4 News.
In the audio, terms such as “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” can be heard.
“Easley Bridge Road. Overdose,” a voice on the audio states. “CPR in progress.”
Panettiere began her acting career as a child in soap operas like ‘Guiding Light’ and ‘One Life to Live’ before achieving fame in television series such as ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘Malcolm in the Middle.’ Her recent work included a role in the film ‘Scream 4,’ according to Page Six.
The actress entered rehab for eight months in 2020 and spoke openly about her struggles with substance abuse during a 2022 interview. She revealed that her addiction issues started after she was prescribed “happy pills” at the age of 15 while working on set, per PEOPLE.
“My saving grace is that I couldn’t be messy while on set and working,” she reflected, adding that life off-set was very different. “But things kept getting out of control. And as I got older, the drugs and alcohol became something I almost couldn’t live without.”
Panettiere is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, whom she shares with her ex-partner, former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko.
