Are you eagerly anticipating Tesla’s much-anticipated “affordable electric vehicle“? If so, brace yourself for further delays as the timeline extends once again.
For several years, Tesla has consistently promised a more budget-friendly version of its electric vehicle lineup. Yet, with each announcement, there often follows news that CEO Elon Musk has “halted” the development of the latest affordable car initiative.
However, the most substantial update regarding an affordable Tesla surfaced late last year during the company’s earnings report, where they provided insights into their future plans.
According to the report, “Preparations remain underway for our offering of new vehicles — including more affordable models — which we will begin launching in the first half of 2025.” Tesla emphasized this timeline, reassuring potential buyers of their commitment.
So, what’s the latest status on the anticipated affordable electric vehicle?

According to a recent report from Reuters, the launch has been postponed once more.
The specific reasons for the delay of the affordable Tesla model, internally referred to as E41, remain unclear. Sources from Reuters indicate that Tesla is still committed to producing the vehicle, with plans for production to commence in the U.S. shortly.
The revised timeline for the long-awaited affordable EV is now set between the third quarter of this year and early 2026. Next year, the company might roll out as many as 250,000 affordable Model Y vehicles, significantly impacting the electric vehicle market.
Although the exact price point for this “affordable Tesla” has not yet been disclosed, Musk has previously mentioned a target price of approximately $25,000. This price would make it roughly half the cost of the current Tesla Model Y, potentially attracting a broader customer base during challenging market conditions.
Recently, Tesla has faced declining sales figures. This downturn has also negatively affected Tesla’s stock prices. Factors contributing to this decline include consumer backlash related to CEO Musk’s connections with former President Donald Trump and his involvement in the federal government’s cost-cutting initiative known as DOGE. Additionally, protests against Tesla have emerged globally, with reported sales in Germany plummeting by an astonishing 76 percent.
Furthermore, many Tesla customers are now opting to dispose of their vehicles through trade-ins and the used car market at record-high levels, indicating a significant shift in consumer sentiment.
