Oklahoma Woman Found Guilty of Child Sexual Abuse
On July 17, KJRH reported that Walker was convicted of one count of enabling child sexual abuse and six counts of child neglect.
A jury in Muskogee County recommended a life sentence for Walker following the revelation that her husband had raped and impregnated her 11-year-old daughter, as reported by KFOR.
Dustin Walker, her husband, pleaded guilty to six counts of child neglect and one count of sexual abuse involving a child under 12. He received a life sentence in June and an additional 43 years for the neglect charges, according to News On 6.
Cherie Walker and Dustin Walker Arrested in August
The Shade Room revealed last August that both Cherie and Dustin Walker were arrested after the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office learned that their child had given birth at home.
A DNA test confirmed that Dustin Walker is the biological father of the baby and the stepfather of the 11-year-old.
Prosecutors contended that Cherie Walker forced her daughter to deliver the baby at home without any medical care and failed to protect her from her husband’s abuse.
Child Lacked Medical Attention for Over a Year
The child did not receive any medical care during the birth and had not seen a doctor for over a year.
According to Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson, the child experienced significant trauma as a result of these events.
“This child is traumatized,” Hutson stated. “She has endured a horrific ordeal. Not only has someone gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will affect her for the rest of her life.”
Cherie Walker’s sentencing date has yet to be determined.
Michelle Justus, the child’s grandmother, also faces charges of child neglect, with her trial scheduled to begin on July 23.
