The iconic film, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, is set to return to theaters, echoing the revival of its predecessor.
According to Empire, this re-release will commemorate the film’s 40th anniversary, with initial screenings slated for the U.K. at this time. Details regarding its availability in other regions are forthcoming. This marks the first theatrical presentation since its debut on November 26, 1986. To celebrate this milestone, a stunning new poster has been designed by Matt Ferguson, known for his work on recent Star Wars re-releases.

Directed by the legendary Leonard Nimoy, who previously directed Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home continues the saga after the events of The Search for Spock. The crew of the Enterprise faces exile after bringing their friend back to life. As they journey back to Earth to confront Starfleet Command, they must embark on a time-traveling mission to rescue the planet from an alien probe by locating humpback whales capable of communication.
Often referred to as “the one with the whales,” Star Trek IV was a commercial success upon its initial release, grossing $133 million worldwide. It received praise from critics and audiences alike, transcending the typical fanbase. Notably, it became the first Trek film screened in the Soviet Union, with a special showing in June 1987 organized by the World Wildlife Fund to honor a whaling ban. Leonard Nimoy and co-writer Harve Bennett attended this screening, where Bennett remarked that the audience reaction mirrored that of American viewers, with one particular line eliciting even greater laughter in the Soviet Union: “The bureaucratic mentality is the only constant in the universe.”
