Texas’ 24-21 victory over Iowa State was anything but pretty. Nevertheless, the No. 22 Longhorns survived many self-inflicted wounds against a pesky Cyclones team.
Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson paced the Texas offense on Saturday. The duo combined for over 230 total yards, making clutch play after clutch play to keep the Longhorns’ winning streak alive.
Quarterback Quinn Ewers did not play the sharpest game of all time. A few missed reads and freshman errors slowed the Horns’ offensive attack. However, Ewers came through when needed, throwing for three touchdowns including the game-winner to Xavier Worthy.
Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers tested Texas’ defense. Dekkers had his way with the Longhorns’ secondary, throwing for 329 yards and two scores.
While Texas struggled against the Cyclones passing attack for much of the game, turnovers proved to be the difference. Jaylan Ford and Anthony Cook forced Dekkers to fumble as Iowa State was on the cusp of taking the lead.
The Longhorns improve to 5-2 with the win, setting up a prime matchup with Oklahoma State next week.

Texas HC Steve Sarkisian: “I thought that we did not play our best football today, clearly, but I think that’s the sign of a pretty good team when you can fight through and persevere, and find a way to win when you’re not playing your best.”
