Former Penn State Nittany Lion and assistant Matt Rhule has been fired as head coach with the Carolina Panthers. Rhule was a four-year starter at Penn State under Joe Paterno and was a three-time Big Ten Academic All-American.
He had a successful college career as a head coach with stops at both Temple and Baylor. Rhule would turn both programs from bottom dwellers into respected teams and conference champions. That success caught the eye of the NFL but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it three full years before being fired.
Rhule will now be a hot college coaching option, perhaps maybe even a high profile assistant, and social media is recognizing that and more. Take a look at the former Nittany Lions firing from all angles thanks to the gift of Twitter.
Matt Rhule won’t be unemployed long it appears
Former #Panthers coach Matt Rhule had several opportunities last offseason for big-time college jobs, but he turned them down to stay in Carolina. Now, he’ll have his choice of coveted college jobs. https://t.co/OenYiWgcC5

Kevin Clark, The Ringer
Matt Rhule is, I assure you, a good college coach who’ll rebuild a program sometime soon. There’s no reason for this to continue in Carolina. Not a pro coach, not special, not what Tepper thought he was. Happens. No shame. Off to Lincoln or Tempe and happiness. I’ve seen enough.

Jim Nagy, NFL Senior Bowl Director
If you’re a college AD and Matt Rhule isn’t at/near top of your interview list then you’re working off the wrong list.
