Apple may not be the first to enter the smart glasses market, but it is strategically exploring a variety of up to four distinct styles for its forthcoming product. Based on insights from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, there is speculation that Apple might unveil some or all of these four innovative styles that are currently undergoing rigorous testing.
According to Gurman, Apple is experimenting with a large rectangular frame resembling Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a sleeker rectangular model akin to the eyewear worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook, a larger oval or circular frame, and a more compact oval or circular version. In addition to the various shapes, Apple is also considering a palette of colors, which includes black, ocean blue, and light brown, as reported by Bloomberg.
Internally referred to as N50, Apple’s anticipated smart glasses will directly compete with the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta model. While both products share similarities, Apple aims to set itself apart with a unique design featuring “vertically oriented oval lenses with surrounding lights,” according to the report. Similar to Meta’s offering, Apple’s smart glasses will enable users to capture photos and videos, but they will be designed for optimal integration with an iPhone. This integration will allow users to leverage Apple’s robust ecosystem for tasks such as editing, sharing, making phone calls, receiving notifications, enjoying music, and utilizing its voice assistant, as noted by Gurman. The launch of Apple’s smart glasses may even align with an improved version of Siri expected to debut with iOS 27.
Gurman indicated that Apple could unveil its smart glasses as early as late 2026 or early 2027, with an official product release anticipated sometime in 2027. In terms of competition, Meta has already released its latest model, which is better equipped for prescription lenses and offers a more customizable fit.
