If Rings of Energy‘s first season was about setting the stage for coming darkness, its sophomore is about reckoning with that darkness already being right here. Few folks in Center-earth are about to have time when the Amazon present returns, least of all Elven genius Celebrimbor, performed by Charles Edwards. However what’s it like enjoying a personality whose destiny is already recognized by many of the viewers?
The ruler of the Elven kingdoms in Eregion and a famend forgemaster, Celebrimbor is understood to Lord of the Rings followers for just about one factor solely: being the one who inadvertently helps Sauron forge the rings of energy, laying into movement the Darkish Lord’s plans to dominate all life in Center-earth and spark hundreds of years of strife within the course of. Anybody acquainted with his story additional than that, detailed within the Silmarillion and Tolkien’s different writings, additionally is aware of this goes even worse for Celebrimbor when the approaching warfare between the Elves and Sauron breaks out. So we’ve recognized ever since he appeared in Rings of Energy that Celebrimbor was a ticking time bomb of a personality. However now that the ticking is getting louder and louder the nearer we get to season two’s arrival. Edwards is embracing that he, and far of the viewers, was at all times going to know the place this was going.
“Clearly you understand that’s coming and that’s a part of the attraction of enjoying such a personality,” Edwards stated of Celebrimbor’s destiny, talking to io9 at a latest press occasion for Rings of Energy‘s return. “It’s a unprecedented second. However you’re not factoring that within the second, in fact, as a result of the character doesn’t know that that’s taking place. It’s fairly a scrumptious place to be in as a result of the actor is aware of the place it’s going, however the character doesn’t. So you possibly can relish it, and relish his innocence and vulnerability and bafflement figuring out the entire time the place he’s headed.”
For Edwards, this meant enjoying up a variety of Celebrimbor’s innocence within the coming season—even when, from the get-go, the viewers is aware of that the mysterious determine that comes knocking to assist him, Annatar, is Sauron in disguise. “I simply tried, Charlie [Vickers, who plays Sauron and his disguised forms of Halbrand and Annatar] was saying this earlier, you simply attempt to play the reality of this always. Sauron messes along with his head, and that takes him down every kind of darkish alleyways. However in fact he has no thought the place his head is. He’s hoping this can be a fruitful collaboration.”
We’ll see how fruitful or in any other case Celebrimbor’s doomed pact actually is when The Rings of Energy returns to Amazon Prime Video on August 29.
