Colin Egglesfield’s Inspiring Journey: Overcoming Cancer and Achieving Life Goals
Colin Egglesfield is looking optimistically towards his future after bravely fighting through three significant battles with cancer.
In an exclusive interview with TooFab, the All My Children star shared the emotional moment he learned he was cancer-free for the third time, a revelation he discussed earlier this year. His latest diagnosis involved prostate cancer, which followed his previous struggles with testicular cancer in 2006 and 2007, showcasing his resilience.
“I believe it is more of a measured relief, having now been diagnosed three times with cancer,” he expressed. “When I went to the hospital and the doctor told me that [I was cancer-free], I became emotional. I broke down and thought to myself, I just hope that I can be healthy for a little longer,” he reflected, highlighting the weight of his experiences.
“I want to get married, I want to have children, and I still have goals and objectives that I need to accomplish,” he continued passionately, before discussing what priorities he has set following this positive news regarding his health.
“After being diagnosed with cancer, I felt an urgency to accomplish everything I ever wanted to do because I was afraid I wouldn’t be around for much longer. This created a sense of anxiety, prompting thoughts like, ‘Well, I need to do this, and I must travel here,’” he shared. “Ultimately, I realized I had to slow down because I felt I was stretching myself too thin by trying to do too much.”
He acknowledged that he still grapples with establishing boundaries as he desires to seize every opportunity that presents itself. He advised others to “focus on one or two things that truly inspire you” and to “learn to say ‘no’ more often,” emphasizing the importance of prioritization.
“I still like to say yes to everything. My friends, family, and my team have to constantly remind me to ‘Okay, Colin, hold on, let’s prioritize here,’” he added with a chuckle. “I’m quite ambitious, so it’s important to remember to create balance in life and not overwhelm oneself.”

Support Network During Cancer Journey
When Egglesfield was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2006, it coincided with his early career on the daytime soap. He told TooFab that he felt immense support from his co-stars and director, despite initially struggling to share what he was going through.
“I tried to hide it from everyone because I didn’t want anyone to know that I was dealing with cancer, particularly since it was testicular cancer… it’s a personal matter,” he explained. “I was afraid of the repercussions if my producers found out that I was sick; would I lose my job? There were so many unknowns.”
“While on set during my radiation therapy, I felt unwell, and my director approached me to ask if I was okay. I broke down because I realized I was afraid and scared, and I recognized I couldn’t handle this alone anymore,” he continued, reflecting on his vulnerability during that challenging period.
“Afterward, everyone on set, including my fellow actors, producers, makeup artists, and wardrobe staff, rallied around me,” he recalled. “Every time I walked down the hall, they would come up to me, offering hugs or saying, ‘Hey, let me know if you need someone to accompany you to your doctor’s appointments.’”

In addition to the support from his All My Children castmates, TooFab also inquired whether anyone from his iconic romantic comedy, Something Borrowed reached out to him during his most recent battle with cancer.
“Not from Something Borrowed, but quite a few individuals from different projects I’ve worked on, and even some high school friends I haven’t spoken to in 30 years reached out,” he mentioned. “Distant relatives I wasn’t aware of, including some from Ireland, have also shown their support, and the outpouring of love has been incredible.”
Egglesfield expressed his gratitude for the City of Hope hospital in Phoenix, where he received his most recent treatment. He emphasized the significance of their “Cancer Fighters” program, a support group he connects with over Zoom, which utilizes his 90-day manifestation journal, “Agile Artist, 90 Manifestation Playbook.”
“I believe it’s truly vital that whenever you know someone going through a tough time, a simple text message or a phone call can go a long way in ensuring they know they’re not alone,” he remarked about providing support to those in need, a lesson he learned during his time on All My Children.

Colin Egglesfield’s New Chapter: Leaving Los Angeles for Personal Growth
Before his 2023 diagnosis, Egglesfield mentioned that he began to feel a greater calling in his life, prompting a significant move away from Los Angeles.
“In 2018, I reached a point in Los Angeles where I had accomplished many amazing jobs and fulfilled my dream of working on some of the biggest projects out there. However, I still felt that I had more to offer in terms of making a positive impact on other people’s lives,” he shared.
“Even though I was walking red carpets and working on exceptional TV shows and movies while traveling the world, I reached a stage in my life where I felt ready to focus on making a difference in the lives of others, not just achieving my own goals and dreams,” he elaborated, emphasizing his desire for meaningful change.
He expressed feeling “stuck” at a certain point in his career, particularly as the industry shifted towards streaming platforms.

“The business was changing with Netflix and Amazon, and the dynamics of how much actors are paid and the residuals were evolving,” he noted. “I began to realize that I needed to explore opportunities outside of acting, as the financial landscape for actors was shifting significantly.”
Egglesfield found himself needing to return to his roots in Chicago, stepping away from Hollywood to reconnect with family. However, he emphasized, “I still love acting; it’s still my passion and one of my favorite things to do.”
He has now become a coach and advocate for health and wellness, conducting monthly meditation sessions that invite others to reflect on their lives. Through this work, he has found numerous opportunities to keep acting in his life and has even ventured into producing.
“Through that, I’ve met film producers and directors. By creating these projects, I’ve realized that it’s akin to producing films,” he explained. “Through this process, I produced my first movie that premiered last August called Duchess. I am currently working on three different projects with two different screenwriters. I’ve come to understand that the more you can help others with their needs, the more valuable you become.”
