- Kim Kardashian was seen wearing nose rings at the Paris Fashion Week.
- Daily Mail called the Kardashian the trendsetter of nose rings.
- Desis did not take the statement lightly.
Reality star Kim Kardashian is not new to the culture appropriation criticisms. After annoying a couple of communities, Kardashian’s latest use of nose rings has left desis evidently mad. It all started after American singer Lizzo imitated the Kardashian’s look at the Paris Fashion Week. The Kardashian and her eldest daughter North West were both seen in nose rings at the fashion event.
When pop singer Lizzo embraced a nose ring at the VMAs, British publication Daily Mail credited the Kardashian for the “trend”. “Lizzo follows trend set by Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West,” wrote the publication. Though the publication mentioned the significance of nose rings in the Indian tradition, desis were not happy.

They took to Twitter to showcase their strong displeasure. “Women in India have been wearing them since before 6th century,” commented one user.

“South Asian women have been wearing the nose ring for centuries, and I am pretty sure so have African women, but nah it’s Kim (not sure what to think of Lizzo in this case) that are trend setters apparently. Nice one, Daily Mail!” wrote another.
Others pointed out how nose rings are frowned upon when worn by desis.
“When desis wear nose rings/studs it’s uncivilised and unprofessional but when they do it it’s a trend can’t out-do the doer,” stated one user.

“I think people need to understand that the problem here isn’t Lizzo but the fact that the Daily Mail said it’s a “trend set by Kim Kardashian” because she did no such thing,” said another.
