Mary Cosby is a prominent figure in reality television, specifically known for her role in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. She was interviewed by police weeks before her son Robert Cosby Jr.’s tragic death. This investigation centered around allegations of domestic violence involving her son, which is significant for understanding the family’s challenges.
According to a Salt Lake City Police report, Robert’s then-wife, Alexiana Smokoff, reported an incident on November 23, 2025. This report initiated a series of events leading to significant legal scrutiny.
Alexiana informed the police that Robert was incarcerated at the time but wanted to report an alleged domestic violence incident from May 2024. She claimed that Robert reacted violently after she disposed of his drugs, expressing her frustration with his substance abuse.
During the police interview, Alexiana accused Robert of physical violence, claiming he “grabbed her by the throat and strangled her.” She also mentioned that he spat on her during this altercation, although she lost consciousness and could not recall all the details.
The incident reportedly took place at Mary’s residence, raising further concerns about the environment surrounding the family.
On January 9, 2026, police questioned Mary about Robert and Alexiana. Mary stated that she rarely witnessed any physical fights between them, noting that their disputes were primarily verbal. This perspective adds complexity to the narrative of domestic violence.
Mary denied that Robert was a violent individual, asserting that she did not raise him to be aggressive. She claimed she had only witnessed one incident where he and another person jumped off a balcony while under the influence.
Police also interviewed Robert while he was incarcerated. He admitted to using fentanyl during the time of the 2024 incident and expressed that he could not recall all details of the fight.
Robert revealed to police that he had informed his mother about being physical with his wife. He described experiencing a “psychosis” during that period, acting erratically and not like himself.
Following the incident, Alexiana filed for divorce, which was finalized while Robert was in jail, highlighting the severe consequences of their tumultuous relationship.
As reported by TMZ, Robert was facing two domestic violence charges related to the 2024 incident at the time of his death on February 23, 2026, at the age of 23. This tragic event underscores the serious implications of domestic violence.
