Dive into our exciting overview of the latest happenings in the indie game world! This weekend offers a fantastic selection of new games for you to explore, along with a series of updates and announcements about upcoming titles that you wonāt want to miss.
Recently, there have been numerous amazing indie showcases featuring a wide array of games (and weāll discuss the highlights below). If youāre eager to discover a wealth of other games, make sure to set your alarm early on April 25 to catch all the action.
Kicking off at 5AM ET on that day, the much-anticipated Indie Life Expo will be live-streamed on platforms like YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Bilibili, and more. This edition will showcase over 200 games! A rapid-fire segment called Indie Waves will highlight 160 of these titles. The organizers received an impressive 1,100 submissions for this event, making it a significant feat to feature such a large percentage of them.
Before this exciting event, you can enjoy another showcase on April 21. Tune in for Top Hat Studios Presents: Spring Showcase 2026, which will start at noon ET on the publisherās YouTube and Twitch channels.
This stream will feature titles like Motorslice, Well Dweller, and the intense survival horror game Becrowned, along with premieres of other Top Hat games. I am particularly excited about Motorslice, which is set for release in May. I suspect we might finally receive a specific release date during this stream.
In the meantime, an intriguing Steam event is coming up soon. Titled InterfaceX26, this event will run from April 27 until May 4, focusing on games that explore fictional operating systems and unique interfaces. The organizers have gathered over 150 developers and publishers who are advocating for Valve to introduce an official āFake OSā tag for games available on Steam.
A selection of exciting games will be part of a sale and showcase on May 2, featuring titles such as Blippo+, TR-49, and The Roottrees are Dead. You can also expect demos and significant new releases during this event. Speaking of new releasesā¦
Explore the Latest Indie Game Releases
After a long wait, Replaced has finally launched! This captivating cyberpunk adventure, developed by Sad Cat Studios and published by Thunderful, is now available on platforms like Steam, GOG, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Series X/S. For those subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, you can play it at no additional cost. The standard edition is priced at $20, while a supporter edition that includes the soundtrack is available for $25. An Epic Games Store release is planned for a later date.
Initially, the game was set to be released in 2022, but complications arose when Sad Cat Studios had to relocate from Belarus to Cyprus due to the ongoing conflict following Russiaās invasion of Ukraine. However, the game has finally launched and has received generally positive reviews from players.
Replaced is a visually stunning 2.5D action platformer that immerses players in an alternate version of 1980s America. You take on the role of an AI trapped in a human body, exploring themes reminiscent of āDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?ā. I have yet to immerse myself fully in this breathtaking game, but I intend to do so this weekend.
Another title that has been on my radar is Gecko Gods, which made its debut this week. I first encountered this charming puzzle exploration platformer back in 2022. The trailers captivated me with the concept of playing as a gecko that can traverse walls and ceilings effortlessly.
Having played around 90 minutes of this game so far, I appreciate its aesthetic, and the customizable gecko is an adorable addition. I particularly enjoy the mechanic of ācollectingā various bugs simply by eating them. It offers a relaxing experience, which is exactly what I need right now.
However, I have noticed a few drawbacks. While exploring two of the five primary islands in the open world, it feels a bit lacking in content. The ability to climb and navigate around objects adds complexity to more precise platforming sections. While the sailing segments are visually appealing, controlling the boat on rough waters can be cumbersome. I also encountered some minor technical issues on PS5, such as occasional frame rate drops and objects popping in and out. I hope the developers at Inresin can address these concerns in future updates.
Gecko Gods, published by Super Rare Originals and Gamersky Games, is currently available on Steam, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The regular price is $20, but thereās a 10 percent launch discount available until April 30 (note that this discount only applies to PlayStation Plus members on PS5).
This week also saw the release of the highly anticipated Mouse: PI for Hire. This first-person shooter and detective game, featuring stunning rubberhose-style animation, has been on our radar for quite some time. Initial reviews have been largely positive, indicating that it offers enough depth to match its impressive visuals.
Mouse: PI for Hire, developed by Fumi Games and published by PlaySide, is now available for $30 on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
From the developers of Thirsty Suitors, Outerloop Games, in collaboration with co-publisher Outersloth, comes the cooking-themed adventure Dosa Divas. This game follows two sisters on their mission to dismantle a fast food empire while reconnecting communities through the art of cooking.
I was drawn to this title when I first saw it during a showcase, impressed by its concept. However, I must admit that Iām not particularly fond of turn-based combat. The reviews I have come across have been somewhat mixed, suggesting that the cooking mechanics and combat could have benefited from additional development time.
If youāre interested in experiencing Dosa Divas for yourself, it is available on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. The game is typically priced at $20, but there is a 10 percent launch discount available until April 28.
For those seeking a puzzle game that can be both relaxing and thought-provoking, consider checking out A Storied Life: Tabitha. In this game, you will pack up the belongings of a deceased loved one, making difficult decisions on what to keep in your limited storage space and what to discard. Youāll need to carefully wrap fragile items in bubble wrap and vacuum pack soft items to optimize space in the boxes.
As you save items, youāll unlock words that can be used to fill in the blanks of your loved oneās life story, reminiscent of Mad Libs. The items you discover, ranging from a blackmail letter to a shirt smeared with lipstick, hint at a diverse array of stories waiting to be told.
A Storied Life: Tabitha is currently available on Steam. The regular price is $15, but you can enjoy a 10 percent discount if you purchase it before April 28.
To wrap up this section, I want to mention that Hades 2 is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for $30, and it comes with a 20 percent launch discount. It is also accessible via Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass.
I purchased Hades 2 when Supergiant Games released it on Steam early access two years ago, with the intention of waiting until the full game was launched. However, I have yet to dive into it fully. There are always so many games vying for my attention, and Hades 2 has ended up on the back burner. I know I need to play it soon!
Stay Tuned for These Upcoming Indie Game Releases
I am eagerly awaiting the release of Agefield High: Rock the School from Refugium Games. This title serves as a spiritual successor to Rockstarās beloved Bully and is set to debut this summer on Steam. It was recently announced that it will also launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year.
This game promises to be a coming-of-age adventure where you play as Sam, a young boy who has just moved to a new school during the early 2000s. His goal is to make the final months of his high school experience memorable.
The game features a branching narrative with multiple endings, allowing players to choose whether to attend classes and be a model student or skip school and stir up trouble. As someone who adhered to the rules during my school days, I might be tempted to explore the rebellious side. This game appears to blend life simulation with a variety of activities and opportunities for mischief. I canāt wait to play it!
The latest edition of the Galaxies Showcase ā another fantastic indie spotlight event ā recently took place, and it featured a game that caught my attention: The Backworld. This is a Mother-inspired RPG developed by Numor Games and published by Top Hat, boasting charming art direction (I couldnāt help but notice a character performing a Naruto run), and an intriguing cast of characters.
But wait, what happened to the music? Why is it suddenly so dark? What are these terrifying creatures that are pursuing my character? There appears to be a significant horror element in this game. The developers at Numor drew inspiration from The Backrooms as well.
The Backworld is set to release later this year, and a demo has just become available on Steam.
A Study in Blue from Relate Games also stood out during the Galaxies Showcase, largely due to its impressive animation. This is a point-and-click adventure where players assume the roles of two characters with intricate backgrounds: private detective Kenneth and runaway Blue.
Players will explore a semi-open world while solving crimes by gathering clues and exposing charactersā lies. The game features three interconnected acts and multiple endings. A Steam demo featuring a side quest from the main game, which will take approximately two hours to complete, is currently available.
I am always intrigued by any game that draws inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Based on the trailer, Elementallis, developed by AnKae Games, appears to borrow heavily from the design elements and concepts of this SNES classic. However, if youāre going to take inspiration from something, it might as well be one of the best games ever made.
This 2D action RPG, also published by Top Hat, focuses more on elemental powers than A Link to the Past and is definitely on my must-play list. It is set to launch on Steam, GOG, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on April 28. According to the eShop listing, it will be priced at $18.
