Miami entered Saturday’s game against Duke as a 10-point home favorite. At Hard Rock Stadium, however, it was all Blue Devils.
Capitalizing on 8 turnovers by the Hurricanes, Duke pulled away for an absolute blowout. Mike Elko’s squad outscored UM 21-0 in the 4th quarter on the way to a 45-21 road victory.
Mario Cristobal’s squad drops to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in ACC play. As expected, Cristobal and the Canes are getting torn to shreds on social media for Saturday’s poor showing.
Here’s a small sample of what’s being said on Twitter:
Can the Miami equipment manager haul out that turnover chain and bring it over to the Duke bench pic.twitter.com/GmNBlw6nz5

Really feel bad for those dozens, dare I say hundreds of fans who showed up in the stadium Miami rented to lose in today.

“These are Manny’s players”. Yeah well these are Cutcliffes 3-8 Duke players (0-8 in conference) from 2021 that are absolutely destroying Miami.

Reminder Miami is paying $8 million this year to Mario so they can lose to Duke by 24

Miami Football. Woof.
Mario looks like a bystander who witnessed a car crash and not the actual head coach…they’re down 21 at home to Duke and running the ball to make the humiliation stop.

Miami has already quit on a brand new coach. Wild! #Miami
Duke is a bowl team though. https://t.co/aOq3zPZln8

@UrinatingTree announces that Hurricane Ian WAS NOT the worst thing that occured in Florida!
It was the Miami Hurricanes losing to Duke!!
This is Category Five Destruction and Incompetence!!!
— Fire Dave Roberts (@nat_petrone85) October 22, 2022
Miami is 3-4.
They have lost three games at “home.”
Two of those home losses were blowouts by Middle Tennessee State and Duke.
The U is back in a big way, folks!

All these “process” people need to tell me the difference between Dukes year 1 coaching staff and Miami’s. It’s a dead program. Don’t blame anyone for not committing to play for this awful staff
— #itsallabouttheU (@Mike_Genoble) October 22, 2022
I know Duke is improved but holy hell they beat the breaks off Miami

Transition years almost always come up with ups and downs. After Cristobal’s success at Oregon, though, Canes fans were certainly hoping to see improvement from the Manny Diaz era in Year 1.
Miami has now lost 4 of its last 5 games. The Hurricanes will look to bounce back in Week 9 on the road at Virginia.
