Newly surfaced surveillance footage from the night of Jeffrey Epstein’s death shows prison guards neglecting their duties. The footage indicates they were just steps away from his cell during the timeframe of his suspected suicide.
The video, first reported by the NYPost, captures correctional officers Tova Noel and Michael Thomas around 3:15 AM at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. They were seen writing on paper, pacing, and chatting on the phone instead of performing required checks.
Epstein was housed in the first cell on the block, just down a short flight of stairs behind the officer station on the ninth floor. This proximity raises questions about the guards’ actions that night.
Authorities believe Epstein died by suicide sometime between 10:30 PM on August 9 and 6:30 PM on August 10. These times were logged as the last check by officer Tova Noel and when both Noel and Thomas found his lifeless body.
Footage reveals guards ignoring bright-orange warning notices on their computers. These alerts indicated that Epstein had just come off suicide watch and required constant check-ins.
One message was particularly alarming, stating, “Mandatory rounds must be conducted every 30 minutes on Epstein, as per God!!!” This highlights the seriousness of the situation.
Noel and Thomas were accused of falsifying logs to show they checked on Epstein overnight. Investigators later found they skipped the 3 AM and 5 AM rounds. They were fired, but in 2021, criminal charges were dropped by Obama-appointed U.S. District Court Judge Analisa Torres. Recently, Noel was called to testify before the Congressional House Oversight Committee.
