Whoopi Goldberg Critiques Trump-Zelensky Meeting as Unprecedentedly Embarrassing
Whoopi Goldberg has made her stance unmistakably clear following the significant meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that took place on Friday. Goldberg’s remarks indicate her strong support for Zelenskyy and highlight her disapproval of Trump’s actions during this pivotal diplomatic encounter.
During a discussion about the now-iconic video of the meeting on The View Monday, Goldberg expressed her full support for Zelenskyy, labeling the display from both Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House as “embarrassing.” She emphasized the significant implications of the meeting and the need for strong international alliances, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“I do stand with you, Zelenskyy, because your nation has been bravely fighting against aggression,” Goldberg stated passionately. “I stand with all of you, as many countries in our world have a troubling history of invading others. For over a century, we have collectively expressed disapproval of such actions. We must not condone this behavior. In light of these events, we must ask ourselves, who are we as a nation?”
Goldberg criticized Trump for attempting to portray himself as “the tough guy.” She described the Oval Office meeting, where Trump and Vance surprisingly shifted their stance from supporting Ukraine to favoring Russia, as “chilling.” This sentiment was echoed by co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who also found the scenario alarming and indicative of a troubling shift in American foreign policy.

“I will never comprehend, in my heart — having traveled on Air Force One with Trump, having visited Mar-a-Lago — is it truly worth compromising everything you believe in? To abandon your core principles?” Griffin expressed, reminding the audience that a significant 62% of Americans back Ukraine, contrasting sharply with Trump and Vance’s minority viewpoint.
Ana Navarro also voiced her objections regarding the meeting, specifically critiquing Trump and his allies for their derogatory comments about Zelenskyy’s attire during the Oval Office visit.
“He is dressed as he is because he represents the suffering of his people, he embodies a nation at war, where over 100 hospitals have been destroyed,” she continued. “More than 700 schools have been obliterated. Over 100 churches have been devastated.”
Navarro also referenced a significant historical figure who similarly chose not to wear formal attire during a visit to the White House, highlighting Winston Churchill.
“Well, who else appeared during a war dressed in uniform during World War Two? Winston Churchill… and nobody criticized him,” she pointed out, emphasizing the importance of context in such discussions.

Navarro also targeted some of the other Republicans present during the meeting with pointed criticisms.
“I want to speak directly to Lindsey Graham, whom I’ve known for many years, and to Marco Rubio, who I’ve known for three decades. I’m deeply embarrassed and ashamed. Marco has dedicated his entire life and career to opposing tyranny, speaking out against Putin’s influence in Latin America, and to witness him capitulate his convictions and follow Donald Trump’s orders is disheartening,” she stated.
“It was utterly humiliating. I must agree with you, Ana, this seemed pre-planned because former UN Ambassador Susan [Rice] indicated on MSNBC that there is no doubt this was a setup, as a vice president typically does not speak in such moments without presidential approval,” host Sunny Hostin remarked. “Thus, President Trump was aware that JD Vance would make such comments.”
She elaborated, “The situation intensified significantly when Zelenskyy, demonstrating his bravery, asked JD Vance, ‘Have you ever been to Ukraine?’ He effectively embarrassed the bully, and what typically happens when a bully is embarrassed? They throw a tantrum… Their actions aimed to embolden Putin, and in this regard, they succeeded.”

Goldberg rejoined the conversation with a powerful call to action for viewers at home and those in the audience: “Here’s the critical thing everyone can do: if you support Ukraine, vocalize it. Speak out loudly and clearly.” She urged the media to amplify this message as well.
“This is what will change the tide. It’s about us. We must be vocal. Media outlets need to raise their voices. They must call out the truth, even at the risk of legal repercussions. Speak out! Because if you remain silent, it appears as though you are siding with them,” she emphasized passionately.
