Halsey has been battling a secret illness, they revealed in an Instagram post when also announcing her upcoming album. Though sharing videos from what appeared to be several hospitalizations, the 29-year-old “I’m Not Mad” artist revealed she is “lucky to be alive.”
“Long story brief, i’m Fortunate to be alive,” Halsey captioned her post, when tagging the Lupus Investigation Alliance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Instagram accounts. “Short story extended, i wrote an album. it starts with The Finish. out now [sic].”
Several celebrities and fellow musicians sent their greatest wishes to the “Bad at Love” singer. Rita Ora commented below the post, “I hope your ok stunning lady [sic].” Heidi Klum also showed her help, commenting with a uncomplicated red heart emoji.
The single “The End” describes Halsey’s overall health journey. All through the dark track, she sings, “Every couple of years now, a medical doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at initially, it was my brain, then a skeleton in discomfort / And I do not like to complain, but I’m saying sorry.”
The “Without Me” hitmaker — who goes by she/her and they/them pronouns — also reflects on the finish of her life in the newly released track.
“When I met you, I stated I would under no circumstances die,” she sings in a further verse. “But the joke was often mine ’cause I’m racing against time / And I know it is not the finish of the planet, but could you choose me up at eight? / ‘Cause my therapy begins now.”
Halsey has been open about their different ailments in the previous. In 2022, she revealed her diagnoses with several circumstances: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome and postural tachycardia syndrome, in addition to living with endometriosis.
At the time, Halsey addressed fans in an Instagram video who expressed their concern more than her physicality.
“I’ve been sort of sick fairly considerably my entire adult life, but it began finding poor,” they explained in the clip in 2022. “I’m nonetheless searching for answers to the root trigger of some of these issues. They could potentially be a further type of autoimmune illness. And I’ve identified I’ve had autoimmune problems for most of my life, specially obtaining endometriosis.”
