Google is officially discontinuing its Assistant tool and transitioning users to its advanced AI-driven solution, Gemini. This change marks a significant evolution in Google’s approach to artificial intelligence and user interaction.

In a recent blog post announcement, Google stated: “Over the coming months, we’re upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini; and later this year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on mobile app stores.” This transition indicates Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience with more sophisticated AI capabilities.

According to 9to5 Google, the majority of users with newer smartphones and updated operating systems will automatically migrate to Gemini. However, the Assistant will still be available on devices running Android 9 or earlier models with less than 2 GB of RAM. This means that older devices will not benefit from the enhanced features offered by Gemini.

Google is making substantial efforts to encourage users to adopt Gemini. Recently, the company removed the Assistant from its search application, redirecting users to the dedicated Gemini app. This strategic move highlights Google’s focus on integrating its AI technology across various platforms.

In its blog post, Google elaborated:

“Additionally, we’ll be upgrading tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches, to Gemini. We’re also bringing a new experience, powered by Gemini, to home devices like speakers, displays, and TVs. We look forward to sharing more details with you in the next few months. Until then, Google Assistant will continue to operate on these devices.”

To summarize: Goodbye to Assistant, and welcome to the future with Gemini, which promises to deliver a more intuitive and integrated user experience.
