GoFundMe Donations: George Floyd’s Family Seeks Transparency

George Floyd‘s family is demanding transparency regarding the funds raised in his memory, specifically urging his brother to provide a full financial disclosure.

A lawyer based in Houston has reached out to Philonise Floyd on behalf of three relatives—sisters Zsazsa and LaTonya, along with brother Rodney Floyd—demanding a complete financial accounting of the George Floyd Memorial GoFundMe campaign.

The letter dated August 11, which was obtained by TMZ, reveals that the fundraiser amassed approximately $19 million. The family asserts their status as George’s heirs, claiming they are entitled to a share of these funds, yet they report having received nothing to date.

They have requested access to all GoFundMe reports, transaction statements, and financial histories, along with tax documents and any other records related to the campaign.

The letter instructed Philonise to provide the requested documents within 20 days of receipt, with the family’s lawyer expressing hope for an amicable resolution to the issue.

The family claims they have made multiple requests for documentation and an explanation regarding the handling and distribution of the funds, but they have yet to receive any information.

They also informed TMZ that they have reached out to attorney Ben Crump for clarification but have not received any reply.

Rodney stated, “We want to examine the records, comprehend how decisions were made, and ensure that our family’s inquiries receive answers. We’re voicing our concerns because transparency is essential.”

According to previous reports from TMZ, the fundraiser had quickly raised nearly $13 million from around 500,000 donations within just over a week of its launch, establishing a GoFundMe record at that time.

Philonise mentioned that the funds were intended to cover funeral expenses, counseling services, travel associated with legal proceedings, and other family-related expenses.
