A series of lawsuits have been initiated against the manufacturers of GLP-1 medications, specifically Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, alleging that some patients experienced abrupt vision loss after using these drugs. The legal actions target Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk.

Allegations Indicate GLP-1 Drugs May Cause Vision Loss
According to the Wall Street Journal, multiple lawsuits have emerged against the producers of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. The complaints assert that patients were not adequately informed about the risk of experiencing a specific side effect linked to these medications, known as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
This type of vision loss is often irreversible, and reports indicate that individuals with diabetes may have an elevated risk of developing NAION, regardless of whether they are taking GLP-1 medications, as highlighted by ABC News.
In response, Novo Nordisk, the company behind Wegovy and Ozempic, has stated that these lawsuits are “without merit.” Reports indicate that the company emphasizes its commitment to addressing “all reports of adverse events with utmost seriousness,” and “Novo firmly believes that the personal injury lawsuits filed in the U.S. lack merit and is actively defending against them.”
Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro and Zepbound, also issued a statement regarding the safety of its products.
“Patient safety is our highest priority,” the statement reads, according to ABC News. “We continuously monitor, assess, and report safety information for all our medications to the FDA. As part of our routine safety review, we engage in ongoing discussions with regulators on potential safety issues, and we will persist in examining data, including any information concerning ophthalmic matters.”
The FDA has also communicated that it monitors the safety of these drugs, as reported by ABC News.
“The FDA routinely oversees the safety of drug products after they enter the market,” the FDA stated. “We identify safety signals from diverse sources, evaluate available data, and implement regulatory actions when necessary.”
WHDH in Boston has reported that thousands of personal injury lawsuits related to vision loss have been filed against these pharmaceutical companies. Researchers have been investigating the correlation between GLP-1 drugs and NAION since 2024. no conclusive study has established that GLP-1 medications directly cause this condition.

Legal Claims Assert Ozempic Leads to Gastroparesis
According to ConsumerNotice.org, several lawsuits also allege that Ozempic is associated with a condition called gastroparesis, a form of stomach paralysis identified by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
This condition disrupts the movement of food from the stomach to the small intestine, even in the absence of any blockage.
The lawsuits contend that Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications have been linked to gastroparesis, as well as intestinal blockages known as ileus. Symptoms include severe nausea, prolonged vomiting, abdominal pain, significant weight loss, and vision loss (NAION).
