Excitement is building around the newly announced science fiction project from Takashi Yamazaki. The prolific director, known for his work on Godzilla Minus One and the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero, is collaborating with Ridley Scott’s production company, Scott Free, on a film titled Nue.
This film should not be confused with Yamazaki’s previously announced project, Grandgear. This will be his first English-language film, produced by J.J. Abrams, and is set to hit theaters in February 2028. io9’s Germain Lussier had an exclusive preview of Grandgear earlier this year at CinemaCon, revealing that it features giant robots, generating immense anticipation among fans.
Nue is a fresh venture altogether; as reported by Deadline, the specifics of the plot remain undisclosed. The term “nue” originates from Japanese folklore and describes a creature with body parts representing various animals, often depicted as a mix of monkey, tiger, dog, and snake. This suggests we might be in for a thrilling creature feature, crafted by the visionary behind Alien and Blade Runner, and directed by the filmmaker revitalizing the legendary kaiju.
In related news, the sequel to Yamazaki’s Oscar-winning film Godzilla Minus One, titled Godzilla Minus Zero, is scheduled for release in November. Ridley Scott is also busy with his latest science fiction narrative, The Dog Stars, which will debut in August.
