One year has passed since Sony unveiled the title for the upcoming Spider-Man film. At this year’s event, they showcased a full scene that offers a deeper understanding of the implications behind that title.
The eagerly awaited title is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and during CinemaCon 2026, attendees experienced further glimpses into the challenges that Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland, will face this time. After years of safeguarding the world by wiping his memories, Peter now confronts a multitude of new issues as his friends return from college, leading to both external conflicts and internal struggles.
Tom Holland recorded a heartfelt video for the event, describing Brand New Day as the most emotional and mature Spider-Man movie to date. This certainly marks a brand new day for the franchise. To illustrate this growth, they presented a scene that had glimpses in the first trailer. In this scene, Peter finds himself in a bodega when Ned walks in, searching for mini-kegs. After purchasing them, Peter follows Ned to discover it is a party—a housewarming celebration for Ned and his roommate, MJ.
Peter unexpectedly joins the party, consumes an unappetizing beer, and ends up in Ned’s bedroom. There, he spots a Chewbacca mini-figure, a nostalgic nod for fans, and then he examines a bulletin board cluttered with news articles featuring Spider-Man. When Ned emerges from the bathroom, he shares his fascination, admitting he has been trying to uncover Spider-Man’s true identity. It’s not out of obsession or a desire to unmask him; rather, Ned expresses gratitude for how Spider-Man has saved him and his friends multiple times during high school, and he wishes he could thank him personally.
Ned elaborates, revealing his knowledge that Spidey hails from Queens and has narrowed down his search to a couple of neighborhoods. He mentions he has two prime suspects, showing photos of Tony Revolori as Flash and Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington. Peter chuckles at this detective work.
At that moment, MJ enters the room. She expresses concern about the number of people in their apartment, joking that a few of them might be sociopaths. Upon greeting Peter, he hands her a bouquet of flowers. When she asks for his name, he stammers out “Maynard,” though it’s a challenge for him to say. Ned assumes they are acquainted since he is at the party, but Peter clarifies he is merely a neighbor. “A friendly neighbor,” MJ responds with a smile.
Ned inquires if MJ had an interview that day, and she confirms she did. However, she declined the job offer, stating, “I don’t want to work for a soulless corporation.” Ned empathizes but points out that every corporation tends to have that quality. Yet MJ feels a strong intuition that she should hold out for something extraordinary. As she glances toward Peter while saying this, a character portrayed by Star Wars: Ahsoka’s Eman Esfandi enters the scene.
While we do not catch his name (let’s hope it’s not “Paul”), he brings top-shelf liquor, which Ned appreciates. He then approaches MJ, sharing a kiss with her and declaring, “That’s my girl.” Observing this, Peter decides to exit the situation.
The scene transitions to a series of clips from the trailer, concluding with a fresh scene where Spider-Man confronts a group of thugs, preparing to engage them in combat. He humorously remarks that he’s not as young as he once was.
While the identity of the villain remains a mystery, we are aware that an older and more seasoned Peter is grappling with more than just adversaries. He is also confronting the ramifications of his past actions.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi, Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo from various realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while introducing newcomers such as Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Tramell Tillman from Severance. The film is set to premiere on July 31.
