Ookla, a leader in telecommunication analytics, has unveiled its U.S. Speedtest Connectivity Report for the first half of 2026. This report evaluates the performance of various internet service providers. T-Mobile emerged as the dominant force in the mobile category, while AT&T Fiber and Verizon garnered accolades for their fixed internet services.
In this report, T-Mobile was recognized as the best mobile network and the premier 5G network in the U.S., boasting a median download speed of 275.55 Mbps, which increases to 314.38 Mbps on 5G. Ookla’s analysis revealed that T-Mobile provided the fastest mobile speeds across 47 states in the U.S. from January to June of this year, with exceptions in North Dakota and Vermont where no winners were declared, and Alaska, where GCI led in mobile speeds.
T-Mobile not only achieved the highest performance scores for mobile and 5G networks, but it also excelled in gaming and video streaming experiences, demonstrating remarkable consistency. The only area where T-Mobile did not secure the top position was coverage, with Verizon and AT&T claiming the first and second spots, respectively.
Despite this, T-Mobile clearly dominated the mobile category. Ookla’s rankings primarily assess performance metrics and do not factor in pricing or value. T-Mobile also received the highest consumer sentiment rating, with Speedtest users rating it an average of 3.77 out of five stars. In comparison, Verizon and AT&T received scores of 3.25 and 3.09, respectively.

In the fixed internet category, AT&T Fiber was recognized as the top internet service provider, achieving a median download speed of 374.75 Mbps, making it the fastest fixed network. It also demonstrated the most consistency and earned the highest consumer ratings, averaging 3.63 out of five stars.
Verizon excelled in providing the best fixed gaming experience, as determined by evaluating critical factors such as latency, upload and download speeds, and jitter. Verizon’s gaming performance score surpassed that of AT&T Fiber by just over one point.

This report not only aggregates scores for the entire U.S. but also provides a breakdown of median speeds and latency by state and city. Kansas achieved the fastest median mobile speed at 242.56 Mbps, with T-Mobile leading in that state. For fixed internet, Connecticut recorded the fastest median download speed at 344.24 Mbps, with Frontier Fiber as the top provider.
Ookla’s findings are based on data compiled through its Speedtest service, which allows users to assess their internet speed by measuring download and upload rates along with ping. Although the exact number of U.S. Speedtest users contributing to this report is unspecified, Ookla mentions it processes hundreds of millions of results globally each day.
