Welcome to our comprehensive weekly roundup of the latest happenings in the indie game industry. This week has seen a flurry of exciting high-profile game releases, with several titles leaving early access and debuting on multiple platforms, presenting players with new opportunities for engagement and entertainment.

This weekend, I find myself preparing for a lengthy flight, and I’m faced with the delightful dilemma of choosing which games to play during my journey. I’ll have my Switch 2, Steam Deck, and Playdate with me—perhaps a bit excessive, but that means endless gaming possibilities. A strong contender for my attention is Donkey Kong Bananza, which I haven’t yet explored. Additionally, there are numerous intriguing titles from Playdate Season Two that I’m eager to try, particularly Taria & Como. My Steam Deck is packed with games, and I’m starting to feel the pinch of limited storage space.

Decision paralysis is a relatable challenge in today’s gaming landscape, especially when selecting a game or a movie. I believe the wisest choice would be to tackle the game that occupies the most space on my Steam Deck that I have yet to dive into. This strategy allows me to easily remove any games that fail to capture my interest. However, I might just fall back into my usual in-flight routine of trying to catch up on sleep instead.

If mobile gaming had a hall of fame, the first two installments of Monument Valley would undoubtedly be among the elite inductees. While the third installment in the series may not have reached the same critical acclaim, it has still garnered a dedicated fanbase since its release on iOS and Android via Netflix late last year. Now, just over seven months later, Monument Valley 3 has expanded its reach and is now available on a wider array of platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. This visually stunning and thought-provoking puzzle game, inspired by the works of M.C. Escher, continues to captivate players.

This week also saw a surprise release from RageSquid and publisher No More Robots with the launch of Descenders Next, unveiled during a showcase alongside its downhill biking predecessor. As a multiplayer action sports game, Descenders Next begins with thrilling snowboarding and mountainboarding gameplay. The developers have exciting plans to incorporate more extreme sports elements as the game evolves—currently in early access, it features a two-year roadmap leading to its full release. Players can find Descenders Next available on Steam, XBOX, and through Game Pass for both XBOX and PC.

In contrast, Wheel World offers a more tranquil experience than Descenders Next, despite its overarching mission to prevent the world from total collapse. The launch trailer for this open-world cycling adventure developed by Messhof—the creators of Nidhogg—exudes incredible vibes and charm. Players will have the opportunity to search for bike parts while racing, enhancing the customization of their rides. Given Annapurna Interactive’s exceptional reputation for quality releases, I am eager to give Wheel World a try. The game is currently available on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass.

Wildgate is a captivating multiplayer shooter released by Dreamhaven’s Moonshot Games division. With Mike Morhaime, co-founder and former president of Blizzard, at the helm, it’s no wonder that Wildgate features a polished and vibrant aesthetic. This team extraction shooter, now available on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, incorporates spaceship-based combat and a procedurally generated map, ensuring a fresh experience with every match.

The year 2025 has been remarkably busy for Dreamhaven, as they have also launched the full version of the engaging action RPG Lynked: Banner of the Spark, developed by FuzzyBot Games, alongside forming a publishing partnership with Game River for the tactical wargame Mechabellum. Additionally, they have released two of their own titles: the tabletop RPG party game Sunderfolk and now Wildgate.

Another title to keep an eye on is Supervive (formerly known as Project Loki), which we have been eagerly anticipating. It has successfully exited early access on Steam. With the 1.0 update, Theorycraft has significantly revamped this free-to-play MOBA/battle royale hybrid, introducing a larger map that offers enhanced traversal options, a two-seater aerial vehicle, additional playable characters, accelerated revives, an improved user interface, and so much more.

Mark your calendars for Agefield High: Rock the School, an intriguing narrative adventure game that centers around a high school senior navigating life after relocating to a new town with his parents. Sam Tatum is determined to make his final months of high school unforgettable, even if it means skipping class or mowing lawns for extra cash.

This delightful project from Refugium Games is currently in development for PC and consoles, with a slated debut in early 2026. The game is steeped in nostalgia, set in the year 2002, complete with a soundtrack featuring catchy pop-punk tunes. Agefield High: Rock the School boasts a branching narrative with multiple endings, drawing inspiration from Rockstar’s Bully. For those of us yearning for a sequel to that classic, this game may just fill that nostalgic void.

I’m quite taken with the aesthetic of Oceaneers, a survival-crafting simulation game developed by Barrel Smash Studios. It appears to draw inspiration from the beloved Don’t Starve, which is certainly a compliment. Players will traverse between islands in search of resources and opportunities to expand their colony. Along the way, they will encounter challenges such as battling sharks and crabs and possibly discovering hidden bunkers—maybe inhabited by a character who must input a sequence into a terminal every 108 minutes? Oceaneers is anticipated to launch in early access on Steam in 2026, with a demo set to be released soon. In the meantime, I might indulge in a long-overdue rewatch of Lost.

There’s something undeniably appealing about getting lost in a fictional world for countless hours, and I do appreciate larger titles in that genre. However, many games nowadays tend to feel overly bloated, and I find great joy in shorter, more focused experiences. Catto’s Post Office promises a completion time of around an hour, making it an enticing option.

In this charming open-world title from In Shambles Studio and publisher Cult Games, players will step into the paws of a Postcat, tasked with delivering packages to the town’s residents. Expect to indulge in classic cat antics like hiding in boxes, knocking items over, and meowing at will with a dedicated button. The adorableness is off the charts! Catto’s Post Office is set to launch on Steam on August 4 for a price of $5, and there will be a 20% discount during its launch period.

Do you remember how Cloud wields a gigantic sword in Final Fantasy VII? Imagine having a similar weapon in a puzzle-oriented action platformer. Enter Gigasword, developed by solo creator Studio Hybrid and published by Akupara Games. In this unique title, players will not only use their massive weapon to defeat foes and formidable bosses but also to solve intricate puzzles and navigate platforming challenges. Gigasword is set to release on Steam on October 2, and a demo is currently available for players to try.

Lastly, let’s talk about a game with a captivating title: The Player Who Can’t Level Up. This intriguing action roguelite draws inspiration from a webtoon that premiered last year. With its sleek and visually stunning trailer, this game brings a unique twist to the genre—players will not be able to level up their character. However, they can choose perks to bolster their monster-hunting abilities. Developed by Tripearl Games, this title is targeting a release on PC and consoles in 2026.
