Chris Brown is required to pay $13 million to his former housekeeper after she suffered serious injuries due to an attack by his dog. The housekeeper, Maria Avila, initiated a multi-million-dollar lawsuit following the incident with Brown’s 200-pound German shepherd, Hades, outside the singer’s residence in Tarzana, California, in 2020.

Chris Brown Must Compensate His Housekeeper for Dog Attack Injuries
After a two-week trial, the jury ruled in favor of Avila, awarding her $13 million. She reported experiencing PTSD and enduring significant scarring on her face and left arm. Reports indicate that she required skin-graft surgery on her left arm, resulting in “raised and pitted skin.” Additionally, she has scars on her forehead and below her eye, as detailed by Rolling Stone.
During his testimony, Brown stated that he had cautioned Avila against going outside without his security personnel, as Hades was known to be an aggressive guard dog. The attack occurred while she was disposing of garbage. The 37-year-old artist recounted that he heard Hades growling and rushed outside to find Avila bleeding on the walkway, unable to move. “The blood kind of freaked me out,” Brown recalled.
The singer also acknowledged that he chose to leave the scene, trusting his staff to manage the aftermath on the advice of his manager, aiming to avoid attracting media attention. Following the incident, Hades was euthanized, according to KTLA.
Compensation Awarded to Avila’s Family Members
As reported by Billboard, the jury also granted $885,000 to Avila’s sister, who was present in Brown’s home during the attack. Avila’s husband, Oscar Olivo, received $50,000.
