The terrorist attack in New Orleans that tragically claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals early Wednesday morning was perpetrated by an individual whose personal life was marred by violence, including a contentious divorce. This individual’s former spouse sought legal protection, obtaining a restraining order against him due to escalating threats and fear for her safety.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who is depicted in a video he had shared online, found himself embroiled in a chaotic divorce during the pandemic. His spouse, Shaneen Chantil Jabbar, felt compelled to approach the court for a restraining order to ensure her safety amidst the turmoil, highlighting the serious implications of his behavior.
While we do not have a copy of the wife’s petition, we do possess the official court order issued by the judge. This document explicitly states that both parties are strictly prohibited from engaging in any actions that could threaten each other or a child of either party with imminent physical harm. This is an important legal measure intended to protect vulnerable individuals in high-conflict situations.
The court order further extends its protections by banning either party from “deliberately, knowingly, or recklessly” inflicting any form of physical harm on each other or on the child of either party. The court order also stipulates that neither party is permitted to withdraw their child from the school or daycare facility where the child is currently enrolled. Additionally, it explicitly prohibits either party from “hiding or secreting the child from the other party” or “removing the child beyond the geographical area defined by this Court.” These stipulations are crucial for maintaining stability for the child amidst family turmoil.
This situation is not the first instance of trouble for Jabbar in his relationships. A previous spouse, who divorced him in 2016, spoke to us about her experiences, stating that he had exhibited abusive behavior during their marriage, although she chose not to elaborate on specific incidents. This history raises serious concerns about his capacity for violence and the potential threat he poses to others.
As previously reported, Jabbar engaged in a shocking act of violence by plowing his pickup truck into a large crowd on Bourbon Street, subsequently shooting two officers before being shot dead himself. This horrifying incident resulted in at least 30 individuals injured and 10 fatalities, marking a tragic chapter in the history of this vibrant city. Authorities also discovered an ISIS flag in his vehicle, raising alarming questions about his motivations and affiliations.
