In early February, OpenAI made an exciting announcement regarding the launch of its Deep Research tool, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its users. The company vowed to make this innovative feature available to Plus users “in about a month,” and it has delivered on that promise. Starting today, the Deep Research tool is being rolled out to Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users. Previously, access to this powerful feature was limited to those subscribed to the $200 per month Pro plan, making this expansion a significant development for a broader audience.

Currently, Plus users will enjoy 10 Deep Research queries each month as part of their subscription plan. Meanwhile, OpenAI is also enhancing the experience for Pro subscribers by increasing their monthly limit to 120 queries, up from the previous allowance of 100. In addition to these changes, the company has introduced several improvements to the functionality of the tool. Now, when using ChatGPT for research, it will not only generate comprehensive reports but also embed relevant images alongside citations, thereby providing users with richer insights. Furthermore, the system has improved its understanding of various file types, which is expected to lead to more effective document analysis.

If you’re eager to explore the capabilities of this new feature, simply create a prompt as you normally would. Before you submit your request to OpenAI, make sure to tap on the Deep Research icon. Depending on the complexity of your question, ChatGPT may take anywhere from five to 30 minutes to compile a detailed answer. OpenAI has indicated that the Deep Research process is currently “very compute intensive,” which means it may take some time before Free users can access this powerful capability.
