It didn’t take long for excitement to build: just under two weeks after the finale of Witch Hat Atelier season one, a trailer for season two has been released. This quick turnaround isn’t surprising, especially with the largest anime convention in North America currently taking place, where Witch Hat Atelier captured the hearts of fans throughout the spring anime season. Viewers found themselves enchanted by the journey of aspiring witch Coco, who learns the ways of magic with determination and a hint of mischief.
While Witch Hat Atelier exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere, an underlying darkness lurks within the story. A dangerous faction of rogue witches, known as the Brimmed Caps, poses a significant threat to the fragile harmony between witches and the outside world. The new season’s trailer hints at a much grimmer tone, showcasing Coco clad in flowing black robes and, ominously, wearing a brimmed cap.
Witch Hat Atelier draws inspiration from the manga series of the same name, authored by Kamome Shirahama. Here’s a brief synopsis:
In a realm where only witches wield magic, they must remain hidden from ordinary humans while practicing their craft. As Coco attends to her daily tasks, she dreams of becoming a witch. When a young witch named Qifrey arrives in her village, Coco learns the ‘absolute secret,’ becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and embarks on her magical education. This narrative follows children facing despair yet reaching out for hope.
The first season concluded with a significant cliffhanger, making it understandable that the production company Bug Films is promptly moving forward with the second season. Fans can hope for a minimal wait between seasons. The audience eagerly anticipates more Brushbuddy action.
Currently, Witch Hat Atelier season two is in development, but no official release date has been announced.
